SOURCE: Alienware laptop screen blank capslock and scroll

This indicates a motherboard issue, remove main battery, next! sub out the ram memory one at a time and test each by powering on, if none of these fix the problem, I recommend a professional to investigate further.

It is like my function key is always on. i cannot use delete instead the scroll lock is being activated

Deactivate the scroll lock key by pressing it one more time. The Scroll lock (Pause) key is a remnant of the old text-based displays. It works in DOS mode. Also unlock CAPS key. The Fn key is a control key for the Function keys (F1-F12) and sometimes the ESC key also.

For some reason the number lock is on my keyboard - i can*t figure out howto unlock it. i have to keep the fn key down in order to type the letters on the right hand side. how do i unlock/ thanks in...

Please follow the below instruction to fix your problem.
Press 2 keys at the same time: "FN" (next to the CTRL key, lower-left of the keyboard) and "num lk", which is the upper-right of the keyboard (it is on the same key as "scroll", and is next to "F12"). This will either turn on or turn off the "Num Lock" function. Both the "FN" and "num lk" are enclosed in a small rectangle. They are easy to see.
Hope the above information will be helpful to you. Thank you. Have a good day.

Somehow I have enabled the scroll lock on my Studio 1537. There is no scroll lock key so what keys together will unenable the scroll lock.

It should be on one of your function keys you might have to use your FN button which when you find the scroll lock on the function key ( press and hold the FN button which is located bottom left side of the keyboard and then press the function key that the scroll lock is on )
