SOURCE: MY SOUND PLAYBACK, SOUND RECORDING,

Back up your files to a seperate disk and restore your computer to a previous state when with a date of when the sound used to work. If it doesnt solve the problem, look for sound drivers of your sound device and reinstall it. Here is how to restore the machine: Requirements: Your computer must be on, booted up and running,Pad and pencil to make notes about restore date. Method:Click on Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, select System Tools, click on System Restore. The next screen is a Welcome to System Restore. Here you will make the choice of the task that you want to perform. Select "Restore my computer to and earlier time". Good idea to click on help at the upper right hand corner. Print and save these instructions as you will need the information in the next few minutes. The next screen that pops up is of a chart showing choices of restore point dates. Select your desired restore point date and click on "next".The next screen is a confirmation to make sure that this is what you want to do. Follow the instructions.Click "next" and your computer will start restoring itself. When complete your computer will be working the way it was a few days ago. Rewinding to listen to recording

You should use the computer with Digital Voice Editor software to have more options when trabscribing. You could then use the transcribing keys to playback your recordings and regulate the velocity of the playback.
Download Digital Voice Editor Version 3.1.03 for Windows Vista/XP/2000.
64 bit version operating systems are not supported, though

During Playback you can press + or - buttons to adjust the volume. Maybe this is your problem. If you need more info watch video instructions chapters for Olympus on http://www.HandBookLive.com under Electronics-> Audio. There are 20 different video chapters. Picking up dictation where we left off after playback DS 40 voice

Unfortunately with this recorder, if he hits the stop button and rewinds it will go back to the beginning of the file. He may want to look at our DS-2300 or DS-2400 recorders as they both have a feature on them of a NEW button which will allow him to stay in the same file until he presses NEW to create the next recording.

Olympus DS30 voice recorder play speed issue

Hi, the solution to the problem seems to be the following. When u press play, once, you get 1x play. If whilst playing you press play a second time the DS-30 goes into slow play mode, and if you press a second time it goes into fast mode. For those of us who accidentally went into either fast or slow mode, just press the play button again, during playback, until "play" appears on the LCD screen. Apparently it is as simple as that.
