Install a brand new needle. Try a different kind of thread--AVOID old or bargain bin threads!
If that doesn't fix the problem, most likely the machine is out of time and needs to be serviced.

Machine is binding up

New needle, right way around, and thread again from scratch, manual in hand. Make sure you're threading with the presser foot up. Raise the bobbin thread. Start each and every seam thus:
1. Place the work under the needle. Use the handwheel or needle up/down function to drop the needle into the fabric.
2. Drop the presser foot.
3. Hold the bobbin and top thread ends together and take about 3 stitches.
4. Drop the thread ends and sew normally. See also: http://www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/22521551 last pair of photos.

I have a brother ls-2125 sewing machine. the upper thread is not catching the bobbin thread properly. help please

  1. Tension
    • Your sewing machine tension controls the rate at which the thread is fed through either the upper section of your machine or through the bobbin case. If your upper or bobbin threads aren't threading properly, sometimes adjusting the tension will correct this problem.
    Timing
    • Your sewing machine works by passing the upper thread through the needle of the sewing machine at precisely the same time the bobbin brings its thread to its uppermost position. If either the needle or the bobbin thread reach these positions too soon or too late, the threads won't interact and create the knots that make the seam. You can throw off your timing by sewing too many layers of fabric or hitting a pin with your needle. See you sewing machine repair facility to correct any timing issues.
    Thread
    • Thread can get snagged or caught in the upper section of your machine or on lint pieces in the lower bobbin section. If your threads aren't catching properly, you may be able to fix it by unthreading and rethreading both your upper thread and bobbin threads.

Pfaff 260 bobbin thread not picking up

Hi. This can be terribly frustrating, but the most likely cause for the bobbin thread not catching is that the needle is inserted wrong. There is a flat side on the shank of every needle and that has to be facing a specific way on your machine or the needle's grooves can't make the stitch. On most modern machines, it's my experience that the flat side goes to the rear, facing away from the operator, but some of my older machines need the flat side facing to the left or to the right.

Another thing that can cause the bobbin thread not to pick up is a bent needle, but in my experience it's usually the needle not in correctly.

(Cost me $85.00 to find this out!)

Let me know if this works, ok?

Happy Sewing!

Machine will not pick up the bobbin thread.

if your machine's needle threads from front to back, make sure that the flat part of the needle shank points to the rear of the machine. If it threads from left to right, the flat side should face right, etc.
