SOURCE: freezer works, fridge doesn't cool

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.

SOURCE: I have a whirlpool side by side fridge. This

You have a bad control board . Pull the refrig out and remove the lower back panel . On the left side are 2 screws holding a white plastic
" box" . Inside this box is the board with 2 ( ? ) group plugs plugged onto it . This board is easily replaceable and costs about $ 75.00 . If you had given your model number I would have given you the part number , so take your complete model number with you when getting the part so you get the correct board .

Ticking clock sound from kitchenaid refrigerator when compressor is running...unit is 2 years old...just started this 1 month ago. Something to be concerned about?

This can be the ticking from the AUTO DEFROST TIMER which normally is a silent unit. If dirt had gone into the timer then the stepper motor can work to produce the ticking.
All what is required if to observe the sound and get to identify the unit. Try to blow some air to the unit or there is no cause for Alarm if the fridge is working fine otherwise.

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

Fridge made a burning smell, and now makes a Tick, Fan runs on...

Sounds like the start relay has become bad/defective and it should be unplugged until we can have a look at it closer to see if possibly something other than the start relay is the reason for causing this failure. Depending on your model number a defective defrost control board or fan could start this cycle of damage to the compressor start relay and compressor if not unplugged until repaired. Please see if you can find the model number and I will be able to tell you more about the cause and assist you in the repair, Thanks, Sea Breeze

well being you purchased the uint 6 months ago you shoudl still have 6 months of warr left. did you try contacting sears, or any authorized maytag servicer to have a look at for you??? maybe a fan has gone bad, or theres a copper line thats causing a vibration through the unit.
