I know that e500 armada can have a maximum of 512mb of ram, and only has 2 'slots' available for them, situated right under the keyboard. the harddisk i am not to sure of, but i think just any size, just wondering about the speed.
It depends on the motherboard but i would say you can probably go to 2 gb ram. now the hard drive you can use any size you like. if you want to purchase this parts check out these stores and websites.

you can probably call the manufacturer. this would be the easiest way at least. if you contact them i would ask what is the maximum ram the motherboard can hold and what is the current processor.you can probably call the manufacturer. this would be the easiest way at least. if you contact them i would ask what is the maximum ram the motherboard can hold and what is the current processor.

NO all system is low spec. low memory, Hd, cpu,and so on, you might upgrade memory to above 256M to run Winxp and use the orignal driver cds, for driver req. as win98 or NT driver, 1st try upgrade memory, and test.

Upgrading System Memory You can expand memory by installing memory expansion boards. Installation is performed easily by lifting the computer keyboard and inserting the memory expansion board. To order a memory expansion board, contact your Compaq authorized reseller. Refer to the instruction card that comes with the option kit for installation procedures. IMPORTANT: If you upgrade memory, the computer increases the Hibernation file size to accommodate the additional memory. When the Hibernation files increases, it requires more hard disk space.
Once you read this section and you know what your ram sticks are labeled you can go to e-bay and type it into the search and it will show you all for sale. I buy all my ram on e-bay. It's the cheapest place to by it. Just make sure you buy it from someone on e-bay that has quite a few feedback, this means they have been doing business on e-bay for some time.
Hope this helps, let me know if I can do anything else for you. JimmyC
most hp/compaq laptops will have memory slots located under the keyboard, and sometimes an additional memory slot accessed through a panel on the bottom of the notebook. In your case, you have 2 memory slots located under the keyboard. Officially, this unit only supports up to 256 mb memory modules for a maximum of 512 MB of memory so if you already have that, be aware that larger capacity memory modules may not work.
what did you mean not working ?? didnt see the new Ram memory ?/ or didnt boot at all ....anyway ...when adding new ram memory ..first thing you do is to remove the Bios battery for to let bios on defaults and let it be able to read the new added unit ....second ...be sure the new added ram is compatible and in the same frequency ,then remove the battery like I said and in the last ...reinstall the operating system ....always look at the boot to see if the ram memory that is displayed is the same value with the one you know that actually is installed on the slots...it should work if this was just an option to make it faster ...and not a wild guess cause it use to have issues and didnt boot before...
First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.
First tell that which O/S it had earlier coz armada e500 notebook comes with 64 MB RAM and 12 GB HARD DISK , had you upgraded your notebook with RAM AND HARD DISK . If not then check the hard disk space you have left in the notebook
