SOURCE: When was the Werner player piano made with serial number 727660 ?

The best way I have found is to get to the back of any of the controls and read the 137 codes. The date will be the next two digits. For example if you read 13762## you know it was made in my favorite year 1962. Year I was born ! Larry

SOURCE: How old is my piano?

1949 and the fifth piano they made in that year or made in month 5 = May.

Try this though. Do you know where middle C is on the keyboard? It is about half way along, very slightly to the left. Remove the front board so you can see the harp with all the strings and the lift middle C key out. On the side of the wooden part of the key half way down towards the strings, you may well see when it was made and every tuning or repair written in pencil.

I found this out by accident. I inherited an old piano and a couple of the keys stuck, so I took them all out very carefully, kept them in order, cleaned them with a damp cloth and sprayed and polished them with furniture polish. I found the history of the piano on one of the keys. When the tuner came to tune it, I told him about my find. He said "was it this key"? as he tapped the middle C. He told him it was done often and was a nice way to keep the history for future repairers and tuners. I wrote his visit on there. He also told me he could smell the furniture polish and I had done a good job.

Let us know how you get on.

Chas f. Netzow upright piano Serial number 47686

I should write this out to save me keep typing it. Remove the front of the piano and the lid for the keyboard. Remove the middle C key completely. You may find the manufacture date and its full service history written in pencil on the side of the key.

Answer
Hi Robyn:
serial 10305
This was one of the original pianos made by this company in 1904. The serial number is the determining factor in telling a piano's age.

The worth rests on the piano's viability, configuration, and age.

Old uprights are generally worth little, especially if they are not serviceable. The furniture value is secondary.

If your piano is in perfect condition, inside and out, the value would top out around 200.00, USD.

What you have there is a typical upright piano, which more than likely has more furniture value than instrument value.

Age is not good in the piano world and pianos deteriorate year by year whether they are played or not.

Are you using this piece as furniture, or instrument?

Piano value by serial number

If your piano was made for the U.S. and is a grand or upright, this serial number would show that this piano came from the mid 70's 1973-77 and was manufactured in Hamamatsu, Japan. You should be able to google your piano from here to find others similar to it to get a price or call your local piano tuner!
