its probably the drum rollers inside the unit that are dragging on the drum and making this burnt rubber odor, it would need to be dis-assembled and rollers replaced, along with a thorough interior cleaning and possibly a new drum belt, all parts about $50

I have a LG Dryer, DLG2102W. It is about 2yrs old and is making rumbling and screeching noises when on. I am thinking is is a belt or roller

Hello,

The problem (noise)can be from both side or area !

However, Loud noises coming from a Whirlpool dryer are most oftencaused by loose objects inside the unit or by a broken dryer belt. The dryerbelt allows the dryer's motor to run smoothly. Continuous wear and dry conditionsmay cause the belt to dry out, eventually cracking and then snapping. This willcause a loud noise within the unit. Repair and fix the dryer belt of aWhirlpool dryer to get rid of loud noises. Instructions And Things You'll Neededto solve the problem.

Screwdriver ,Replacement dryer belt 1 Stop the Whirlpool dryer and look inside thedryer's drum for any loose objects such as coins, pens or anything else thatmay have been in a pocket of clothing. Remove the object and restart the dyerto determine if the noise has stopped.
2 Unplug the dryer from the wall outlet todisconnect all power to the unit. 3 Remove the lint trap from the lint compartment onthe top of the dryer. 4 Remove the screws that hold the top panel inplace. Pull the panel off to access the
dryer belt.
5 Tilt the dryer forward and lift the dryer drum toremove the belt. Check the dryer's belt. A belt that is worn, cracked, split orbroken will cause loud noises. 6 Slide the old belt off of the drum and pull it outto remove it. Take note on how it is positioned over the drum.
7 Install the new belt. Lean the front panel awayfrom the dryer and slip the new belt over the drum. Locate the position of theold belt and slip the new belt following the old belt's position ensuring thegrooved side of the belt faces down. Push the idler pulley towards the motor toallow you to slip and loop the belt around the motor pulley.
8 Place the top panel on the Whirlpool dryer andscrew it in place.
9 Open the dryer door and use your hand to rotatethe drum counterclockwise a few turns to ensure the belt is secured.
10 Plug the dryer into the wall unit and begin use.If the noise still exists, you'll want to call a professional repairtechnician. Thanks for using fixya.

3. Remove the ink roller from the right side of the compartment. Insert your
index finger, nail down, under the tab on top of the ink roller. Gently lift the
ink roller out of the compartment.
4. Lower the new ink roller (IR-21) into the compartment and align the hole
in the ink roller with the pin in the compartment. Press down until it snaps into place.

Motor runs, but noisey, smells hot, brushes don't turn

First you need to check why the brushes are not turning, this could be due to a lack of suction, which means the smell of heat and excess noise is due to a faulty motor, this can also be tested simply by testing the units suction power.
A faulty motor is the most comon problem when it comes to smells of heat or 'ozone' as well as excessive noise. Good Luck.

Is there a procedure to change belt? Also 1 (left) drm roller

No set procedure. Idler wheel is a common failure on Amana Dryers. Remove front panel and front bulkhead, from there you can remove belt from idler and pull drum from unit. The screws are a 5/16" hex head. While you have the unit taken apart, ensure you vacuum the interior cabinet and make sure your vent out of the house is clean, this will help prevent a house fire.

Whirlpool gas dryer makes a lot of noise

This sounds like the support rollers are either loose or worn out.

Turn off the power, shut off the gas, pull the unit away from the wall carefully, and remove the back of the dryer.

Look around the perimeter of the drum and you will see the rollers. There should be 3. If they wobble or the rubber on the rollers is worn down, they are bad and need replacing. While you're in there, inspect the motor, belt, and drive assembly to be sure it's solid.

An appliance shop or parts outlet can usually provide these parts for your unit.

Dryer

That is an accurate description
the drum of all dryers is suspended from a combination of
felt pads at the drum ends
nylon glides under the drum
rubber tired thrust rollers.
the rubber tires wear, and the drum shifts, this pinches and wears the felts, then there is enough space to pinch the clothes in the gap
It is a simple enough fix, and well worthwhile, felts glides and rollers are cheap in comparison to new dryers.
Generically all dryers are pretty much the same, so when you go to the parts store, the felts rollers and glides may be labelled whirlpool or kenmore
they will fit exactly, there are very few that fit very many models.

To do the job
  • UNPLUG DRYER
  • If a top mounted lint screen, remove lint screen and 2 screws under lint screen from top of case
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release spring clips at front corners of lid, retaining lid to front panel
  • tilt lid up
  • remove 1screw each side 1/3 way down front
  • disconnect door switch wires
  • remove front panel and door
  • pull tensioner to end of its travel against tensioner spring, and unhook belt
(Note:: position of belt around tensinoer and motor pulleys for reinstall)
  • pull drum out forwards
  • motor, pulleys, support rollers, felts, and glides can now be inspected
good roller
3d57115.jpg bad roller
7133e59.jpg rollers are in pairs, if one is worn replace both

Inspect felts and nylon glides where fitted, any wear - replace

to replace felts
requirements 2 or more pairs locking pliers(visegrips) hitemp silicone adhesive
  • pull old felt off
  • scrape off old adhesive
  • spread gllue on drum edge
  • secure felt on drum with visegrip
  • pull felt into place, clip with visegrip, pull again clip with visegrips, work around until felt is attached to drum and clipped in place
  • allow glue to set
nylon glides, if fitted replace easily, a central screw, or glue

reassemble in reverse order

If your dryer is noisy, check these: (Click on links).

Rollers
Idler pulley
Glides
Rear drum bearing
Blower wheel
Rollers Many dryers use rollers or wheels to support the clothes drum. When these rollers are worn, they can be noisy. You should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.

Idler pulley Dryers have a tension or idler pulley that keeps tension on the main drive belt. When it's worn, it can be noisy. When that happens, don't lubricate it. Just replace it.

Glides Many dryers use nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them.

Rear drum bearing Some dryers support the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle may be a ball-and-socket type support or a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn.

Blower wheel Your dryer's blower wheel pulls air over the heat source, through the clothes drum, and past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. The blower wheel, which is usually plastic, may wear out over time. But if it's noisy, it may simply be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you probably need to replace it. If this doesn't help, post me back and I will do some more research to help resolve your issue.

Belt busted

lets see what we can do. wrap the belt around hte tub assy. the little white roller w/ metal arm (called the tension pulley) needs to be installed .there should be a few ****s directly under ther motor pulley on floor of unit.two sets of ****s you wanna use the set to ther rear of unit. insert the prongs into the left rear **** and then pull the roller portion to the right.(it should hook the back prongs of idler into the rt side ****s. tension holds this into position so it will fall out if you let go) theres an opening in the metal under the roller mounts, e**ugh room to slide the belt through.heres how it works, install the idler as described above, feed the belt through the opening in the idler from the left and under roller through hole pull hte roller and pulley hard to the right.(its springy and as long as installed correctly ** worry of popping out) and loop around the motor pulley.let go of the pulley. and the belt should remain tensioned. it will only go on on way. GOOD LUCK
