SOURCE: car amp blows 12 volt wire fuse
the wire from your battery is blowing fuses? and you are using 20-30 A fuses? mine has a 100A fuse..look into getting new wire plus my wire is 4 gauge.., 1600 watts is too powerful for a 12 g wire and a 30 A fuse

The wire should not be hot until the relay is triggered. The relay does not get triggered until the ignition key is turned on. It will run for 3-5 seconds or until the system pressure it at max.

here is a wire diagram. follow the pictures. you can do fuses but i like inline breakers. you can get them at your local outboard dealer.

No, they stay apart, think of it like a railway track, that you Tap onto each rail, as you go down the track... For a light there is no polarity, just as long as you have two separate wires you will be all good.
