SOURCE: Bobbin thread breaks

Make sure your bobbin thread is turning clockwise as it sits in the bobbin case. There is a screw on the outside of the bobbin case you can turn with your thumb slightly to adjust tension. If you dangle the case from the thread and give it a light ****, it should move down slightly when doing so-an indicator of good bobbin tension.

SOURCE: Excess bobbin thread under the fabric

I know you hate to hear this but you are probably threading it incorrectly. Make sure that the presser foot is in the up position when you thread the machine. This ensures that the tension discs are open and the thread makes it in between the disc.

SOURCE: My brother LS-1520 sewing machine is having major tension problem

Try some metal bobbins, #15 or SA 156. that seems to help. If, you don't have a manual go to brother.com and download one for free

SOURCE: sewing machine tension

Hi. The upper tension is too loose (even tho it looks ok). If the upper thread is too loose, it can't pull the bobbin thread up to properly form the stitch and you get those messy 'birds nest' on the bottom side of the fabric. I posted a Tip on Adjusting Tension--read that and adjust your upper tension.

Thanks!

Robbie

I have a bernina 550. What should I set the tension when sewing with invisible thread?

When I took a quilting class, the instructor had us put the invisible thread spool in a coffee cup behind the machine. Then we taped a paperclip or safety pin at the top-back of the machine (with about half of it above the sewing machine) between the spool pin and the first thread guide. Then we ran the invisible thread through the hole in the paperclip/safety pin and through the remaining thread guides and tension disks. (Technically, we avoided the spool pin.) Do NOT put invisible thread on the bobbin. Then adjust the top tension like you would for regular quilting or sewing.

Thread globe 877 sewing machine

Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Verify the thread path is correct.
Set the top tension to the midway point and then tweak it so the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

I have a singer 500/550 .I'm trying too sew a straight stitch ,but I'm having trouble with the tension. What's the best setting? And i can't sew with needle in the middle position. Why

500/550? wow, that an old one. have you check your timing? or the bevel gears?
what type of problems are you having with the sewing. is the thread knotting up on the back side of the fabric? is the thread just breaking? or is it just missing stitches? does the needle hit the bobbin case?
I have a 600 series and I found that if i put the tension around 2 or 3 it sews the best.
too tight the tread breaks, too lose the thread knots up on the back.
I had to change out the bevel gears and have the machine re-time to stop the miss-stitching.
also may want to check your bobbin tension.

How do I thread the Lily 540 for twin needle sewing?

You need to have the auxiliry spool pin threaded, a twin needle of course, and the threading is the same exept when you go through the tension. You have to make sure you have one thread on each side of the center tension disk. And that's it. Make sure you only sew straight, or small zig zags. Or else you can break a needle.

I have a singer cg 550 sewing machine and I am not sure which slot to put the bobbin thread in first

If you put the bobbin in the case with the thread coming off in a clockwise direction, the thread should just fall into a slot and gently tug on the thread and it will slide through the tensions. Lay it across the bobbin case and then pick up the thread with the needle.
