If you are connecting the soundbar to your TV with the digital audio cable, make sure to select "D IN" using the source button on the soundbar. Bluetooth (BT) is a separate source from another device. (phone, etc.) The TV will need to be set to use the digital audio output and probably PCM format. (?) Should be able to use Bluetooth. Need to "pair" the devices (the TV and the soundbar). Now go to the TV's setup menus: Sound > Speaker Settings > TV Speaker > SoundShare Settings, Add New Device=On, select the Sharp GT-SB30 from device list. If passcode, password, etc is needed, enter 4 zeros (0000). After the devices are paired. the pairing indicator on the soundbar should stop blinking. The pairing information should be retained so you only have to do this one time unless you do a full reset on the TV or soundbar.

Connect optical cable to soundbar and tv. Plug in the soundbar.
One gotcha -- the red light on the soundbar means the power is off. No light means the power is on.
