Model 6370. Why does it sew only in reverse when I select a pattern stitch?

Hi Sally,
I have worked on a few of the older Vikings and the pattern selector seems to get gummed up (something about the lubricant they used to keep the parts from rusting). Be careful with the plastic parts, they become very brittle with age and there is no easy way to get the machine apart because Viking hides the screws. There is a YouTube video of a tech working on the reversing problem, may not be the same model as yours but they are similar.

How do I repair the stitch changer on my Husqvarna viking

if the stitch selector is stiff, don't force it, some small parts that are no longer available could be damaged. take the machine to an authorized Viking repair center for evaluation.

This repair will need to be done by a Viking dealer since it will require the covers to be removed. You can find a dealer near you by using the link 'Locate a Dealer' at the Husqvarna Viking Website -

Viking Husqvarna Model 6020 stitch selector will not turn.

look at the cam gear. This is the unit that the cam connects to. It could have a crack or be split completely. If there is a crack the cam stack will have to be replaced. The parts are hard to get and a good technician is needed.

Inspiration 4205 stitch length won't change

Are you certain that the pattern selector is set for straight stitch and not buttonhole?

Turn the handwheel so that the needle is up and the take-up lever is in it's highest position. Then turn the pattern selector knob through all of the patterns back and forth a few times. Finally, select straight stitch and see if the length works. If not, need to take it to a repair person to determine the course of action.

I have a Viking Husqvarna classica 100 sewing machine. It won't zig zag at first, but after a few rows, will begin. This is a problem when I make a button hole. Also, do I oil it in those 2 little holes on...

You do not oil that machine with those holes in the top.

The Zig Zag problem is caused by a finger near the pattern selector that is just starting to stick. Take off the rear cover with the one screw located at the top rear of the machine. (lift the handle up to see the screw) Then pull the rear cover upward and slightly outward to remove the cover. Looking into the rear of the machine, you'll see a shaft about 4 to 5 inches long that the camstack moves up and down on as you turn the pattern selector on the front of the machine. The finger that is sticking is to the left of the shaft (usually it's silver), it has a spring on it. Don't remove the spring. Gently move the finger back and forth after you put some teflon oil on the top and bottom of the finger. Also try to move the finger up and down the shaft it's on as you move the finger in and out, it only has a small travel so don't force it. Your goal is to just get a little lubrication underneath it to free it.

I have a Viking 6460 and I can't get it to zigzag. Can I fix this myself, if so, please let me know what to do

Your problem is not a simple one, I'm sorry to say. If that machine has sat for some time or the Zig Zag has just not been used for a long time, the problem is that the grease that is now 25 years old or so has hardened and froze the internal mechanism. The pattern selector has to be removed from the machine and it needs to be rebuilt. Find a Husqvarna Viking dealer thats been at it for awhile to fix it. There is a dealer locator on their web site.

I just bought a used Husqvarna 2000 sl without a manual.

If you have on old Husqvarna 2000 from the 1970's, then the knobs are as follows:

Top front left: Pattern Selector
Top right: Stitch width
Lower: Stitch length and buttonhole (when turned to 0 and pulled out)
Extreme left: Upper tension
Side left: Presser foot pressure

Reverse sewing button stuck HELP!!

MOdel 6430 has the stitch length and buttonhole selector on the same knob. It is the one on the bottom right side of the machine. I believe you may have selected the buttonhole by pulling out on the large round knob. You need to turn the knob back to 0 zero and push in. This should return the machine to normal mode.Adjust your stitch length to 3 and try it. The reverse knob in the center should also stick out so that it becomes operational again.
