Make sure it's on the shredder basket correctly. There is a safety switch.

Testimonial: "Yes the shredder basket is on correctly and I have switched on/off/rev etc... but still nothing. Do you think I'll ever get it back? I knocked it over accidentally and it's hard to believe that it will be inoperable for good!"

By the way, where's the safety switch located? I don't seem to see one.

  • rdjagger May 18, 2017

Well, most of these can only be put back onto their shredder basket one way and that correct way has a tab on the basket that trips a switch on the shredder body allowing it to work. So I was thinking that might be the issue since just knocking it over should not cause any issues.

I emptied the shredder and now the red overheat/door open light comes on when I turn it on. will not allow me to shred anything. please help!

There is an interlock that prevents your shredder from operating without the bin in place. Something may be stuck inside, preventing the bin from closing the interlock. There also could be a shred of paper preventing operation.

Dryer is tumbling but no heat - when I reset it shuts off after about 10 min and the Drying, Cool Down, and Extended Tumble lights are all flashing.

Janet McDonald,

I understand that you are having trouble with your dryer not heating and not running a full cycle and shutting off with the Drying, Cool Down, and Extended Tumble lights flashing. What I suggest is to give your appliance a hard reset. You will do this by either unplugging it or cutting the power off at the circuit breaker for 3-5 minutes. After the 3-5 minutes, bring power back and try to start a cycle. If it does not complete the cycle and shuts off with the lights flashing, I suggest to either contact the manufacturer or a local appliance technician. This way you will be able to locate the cause of this issue and have it resolved.

Blue light comes will run in reverse but not foreward

Try to reset the shredder.---- Toggle the On/Off switch at the back few times times. Then see if it gets reset.-------- Toggling it on and off to reset the shredder. Make sure to pull out the paper bin while you toggle the power switch on and off a dozen or so times and then put the basket paper bin back in place. When you power the unit back on the forward button should work again and the shredder should feed paper through properly.------ Another procedure is Using the power switch in the back, power on with the blue button and keep press forward till it worked. ------- Turning the off/on switch multiple times mostly helps. ------ This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Techko shredder model #SH4205PD. The shredder stopped working. After unpluggung it and sliding the switch back and forth a couple of times it worked. Now it has quit working again. what coulf be the...

The micro switch referred to is to triggers from the presence of a piece of paper in the slot when on 'Automatic'. If this is stuck in the closed position it will easily be verified by placing a piece of paper in the accepting slot on the top of the machine. If it turns on it is stuck in the closed position. These shredders obviously get quite dirty and may simply need cleaning. Be Very Careful when working on any shredder! Also. the slide switch while basic in design has a number of wires on 8 poles and could also be the problem. As well if you these machines are protected by a thermal cut-off circuit if you overworked it give it sufficient time to cool down and reset. These are the most probably things to look at however, more in depth Dx may be necessary.
Good luck.

Oil life % wont quit coming on --just had the oil changed but % info won't change back to good oil life

there is a reset button- or do something in your car to trigger the reset. for example on most gm models to reset the oil light you turn the ignition on, but not the engine then hit the gas pedal 6 times (6 times under 10 seconds) and it resets it. You can try this but not sure it will work on fords, if it does not just call and ask your local dealership. god bless.

Paper got stuck. machine will not turn on.

First, check that the machine is properly seated on the waste container. There is a switch that prevents the shredder's operating if it isn't properly seated. Will your "ready" indicator light up? If the machine will not turn on at all, try something else in the outlet the shredder is plugged into. If there is no power to the outlet, you probably tripped the breaker. Reset it and proceed as follows. Turn your switch to "off". Unplug the shredder and flip the shredding head upside-down on a stable surface. Remove anything that was previously hanging down. Gently remove stuck stuff, keeping your hands in a safe position. Place the shredder head back on the waste container and plug it in. Most all shredders have a reverse on them for just this occasion. Work the machine reverse and forward, until it releases. When in reverse, remove whatever the shredder gives up, with the switch set to off, of course. This should get you back in the shredding business. Next time you're at one of the office supply stores, get some shredder lubricator sheets. Using these from time-to-time lessen the incidence of jams.
Enjoy! --W/D

Heat pump unit won't run, possibly electrical?

If there is no lights on the furnace/air handler, and no sounds from the equipment then it does seem to be an electrical problem.

First try to reset all applicable breakers and fuses. If this does not bring something back to life, you most definitely need a professional on site.

Powershed 480

The 480 is a high end shredder but most of your questions depend on the load it has been under for the 6 years. I would check the cutters for wear before buying.

Have a Staples SPL-XC200d Paper Shredder. The 'add oil' light is on...but have added oil repeatedly. Does not need more oil. Have also unplugged overnight, thinking that would 'reset' the computer, no...

After you have added the shredder oil, you have to hold down the "Lubricate" button for about 5 seconds. This resets the counter and it will remind you to add oil when you have gone through about 250 more pages. Note: holding down the "Lubricate" button for 5 seconds will reset the counter and make the message disappear whether you add the oil or not, but it is highly recommended that you use the oil.
