SOURCE: Steering gear fluid capacity and type of manual trasmission fluid?

Hello Dave,
I own a 1988 Ram 50 5-Standard and will go off my own experiences to answer this question.
I use a synthetic 80W transmission fluid.
If you know what is/was already in there; my recommendation is not to change the grade of oil in the transmission unless it is necessary because of driving conditions or vechicle requirements (i.e. towing/hauling/efficiency).
Anyway the Ram 50 Manual 4 & 5 Speed transmissions take a range of fluid grades from 70W-90W. You can use this in both conventional and synthetic oils.

For the power steering, universal power steering fluid works the best, and I honestly don't know the exact amount to put in Ram 50, but may I suggest you purchase ~20oz. Fill it half with half the bottle, then check the dipstick, then put in half of that half-bottle (a quarter of the bottle in), check, and repeat until you get it to the appropriate level.

Hydrostatic transmission fluid needed for bowlens tractor

The Bolens or iseki G152 will take a "TDH" fluid. The local Tractor supplier told me that as long as it says "Transmission / Hydraulic" on the container I would be OK. Most of the newer (and some older, like ours) have a single sump for the Hydraulics, differential, and Transmission and this is the product most of them use. I've been putting that in on my G152 (tx1502).

Any local tractor supply will have it. Even NAPA auto parts carries a TDH fluid. Again, whatever brand you get make sure it says "transmission / hydraulic" on the label.

Running Eatons 700-011 hydrostatic transmission in Walker Ride-on Mower. Lose drive pressure and steering on one side when unit has been operating for 30 mins or so. Oil levels ok.

Hydraulic pressure regulator for that side could be going bad. Fluid pressure is being bypass from that circuit causing hydraulic pressure loss in drive and steering.

Hi Jeff,

Use hydrostatic fluid. Consult your owner's manual for information. Do not use hydraulic transmission fluid.
If you do not have your owner's manual, you can find one on www.managemylife.com Just go to that site, click on manuals and enter your make and model number.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

I have a case 4210 farm tractor and need to know what the best type of hydraulic fluid to use would be ??????

Older case machines used a fluid identified as TCH (Torque Converter Hydraulic) for both the transmission and the hydraulic system. It's not readily available so has been replaced by default by separate products. Hydraulic fluid for the cylinder system, and transmission fluid for the torque converter. I'm currently using NAPA TDH with no problems.
