I have a kolher 149cc engine on a Husqvara lawn mower, it seems to be out of time because is rips the pull cord out of my hand.

take the top of the engine off and remove the flywheel bolt blow out any dirt and look to see if the flywheel key is sheared. if it is replace it and put back together. you may want to check the blade also because for it to shear a key it had to have hit something probably causing the blade to be damaged.

I replaced a broken starter cord and when I reassemble the starter won't turn. Any ideas?

Remove for the n-th time the pull start assembly. Confirm the engine will in fact rotate by hand. Turn the flywheel a full turn or more ensuring that the engine is free. You should expect to feel some resistance from the compression cycle.

Holding the hand crank assembly attempt to pull the pull-cord and observe that the hub rotates. When released the spring returns the cord and handle into the wound position.

If the cord will not pull or operate as expected then remove and reassemble the cord into the pulley making sure that the knot retaining the cord is small enough and does not interfere with the operation. U-tube has several videos showing how to assemble the cord to the hub.

My pull cord rips out of my hand

The string assembly should reach a point far enough out when you pull the cord that it lets it spin free of the engine. What you are probably experiencing is the engine kick-back, where the engine is compressing the air/gas in the cylinder, and the pressure pushes the engine back. The crankshaft is connected to the pull cord assembly, so it's pulling out of your hand. You may not be pulling hard enough, or the cord assembly needs replacing.

The pull cord will not pull to start the trimmer

i had a problem like this on an old mower, the cord had become tangled inside the unit, it limited the pull of the cable so it would now spin the engine enough to start. it is not too difficult to to pop the top off the unit and check for tangles or knots

It is because the engine is hot so the fuel pulled into the engine is more volitile, you do need a reasonable cranking speed to start the engine. if the deco valve in the engine is not working properly it will increase the compression and make cranking the engine much more difficult.

How do you put a new pull cord on?

With great difficulty on that machine!!!

Its a "Half Cranked" engine (which is cheap and nasty) meaing the recoil / pull cord is located between the shaft of the brushcutter and the engine (NOT on top of the engine like proper "Full Cranked" engines are).

You will have to remove the engine to do this and probably loose the will to live in the process! Bin it and buy a Stihl bent shaft trimmer instead
