Question about Brother Sewing Machines

1 Answer

My Brother HE 1 will not feed the top thread. When I embroider, the thread never comes off of the spool. I have rethreaded the needle, it is correctly threaded.

I purchased the machine second hand, it may be defective. But if there is a fix, I would love to try. When I try to embroider, the bobbin thread is making the design, the top thread is not being activated at all.

I don't have this particular machine, but have you made sure that you are threading correctly? I would completely remove your upper thread and put on a fresh needle. Also, whenever you do make a thread change, be sure and cut the thread at the spool on top and then pull the thread from the bottom (needle area) This will help prevent any fraying in the thread path that you can't get too easily. If this isn't an embroidery only one, try just sewing first so you will know if it feeds. It it does work in sewing mode, some machines are picky about thread. My upper thread is not feeding through the machine while embroidering. What could the problem be?

Install a brand new embroidery needle.

Remove the upper thread totally. Always raise the presser foot, then rethread from the beginning. Make sure you are threading it correctly. Test your stitch--just do a straight stitch on some scrap fabric. If it is still a problem, loosen the upper tension. Test again. If it hasn't improved, then there is possibly a piece of thread stuck in the tension disk or the tension disk is broken or faulty.

To clean the tension disk, remove the upper thread from the machine. Loosen the tension disk all the way and raise the presser foot. Dampen a piece of pearl cotton with rubbing alcohol and gently pull it down through the tension disk a few times. Rethread your machine, adjust the tension disk to the midpoint between high & low numbers and test again.

Why does thread gather in bobbin area and jam machine

Completely unthread the top and bobbin threads. Clean any lint build up out of the bobbin race assembly using the little brush and some canned air. Check that the needle is inserted correctly...with the flat side towards the back. Then carefully rethread the top and the bobbin threads. Make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly...if it's backwards the machine won't sew properly.

SERGER HAS BEEN RETHREADED AND HAS A NEW NEEDLE BUT WILL ONLY SERGE FOR ABOUT 1.5 " and THE THREAD BREAKS AND LOWER LOOPER COMES UNTHREADED.

Serger thread breaks

1. Is the serger threaded correctly?

2. Is the needles inserted correctly?

3. Is one of the needles bent or damaged?

4. Is the tension adjusted too tightly?

5. Is the tension adjusted to accommodate thickness of thread being used?

6. Are you using inferior quality thread?

7. Is the thread feeding off the cone/spool freely?

8. Is the needle size correct for the type of fabric being used?

9. Are the needles being used the correct one for the serger?

10. If all of the above suggestions don't help then the serger needs to be checked for a timing problem at a sewing machine repair shop.

I have been trying to make a buttonhole but the top thread keeps breaking and the threads are all snarled up underneath the material. what am i doing wrong? i have a brother ls2125 machine maria

Firstly have you interfaced the material that you are buttonholing on? You will never get a good buttonhole otherwise. Also start each new project with a new needle matching the size to the weight of fabric. Good guide available here http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/

Top thread breaking is usually because the tension is too tight or the thread is catching somewhere in the thread path from the spool to the needle. Also check that the needle doesn't have a burr on it somewhere, or is blunt.

Thread snarls underneath the fabric is usually caused by top thread tension issues. You will need to rethread top and bottom and CHECK that the thread is in tension correctly. So lower the pressure foot and pull the top thread just before the needle - does it feel hard to pull? If not, then the thread is not in tension. Rethread top again, checking the tension dial is set to 5 and the thread is correctly pulled between the tension discs. And always hold the two thread tails at the back of the sewing area as you start each new seam to avoid these being pulled down into the bobbin area and getting jammed up.

So, rethread, test sew and get the top tension sorted, a nice straight stitch happening, then try the buttonholing sequence again.

Brother ls 1717 keeps breaking upper thread. I have rethreaded and put in a new bobbin. Please help. What can I do to correct this problem?

Change needle--flat side goes toward back of the machine
Clean under needle plate where feed dogs are for lint
Clean bobbin area for lint or loose threads
Check tension 3 or 4 is usually good
watch the thread take up lever --some machine have a problem that the thread comes off the lever

make sure the needle & thread are compatable
Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

When trying to sew my thread is skipping stitches and then the i get a whole bunch of thread wound up together on the bottom. I have cleaned it out but it still wont work. Keep getting an E6 code.

change the needle
rethread the top thread & make sure the top thread doesn't come off the thread take up lever
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure there is no lint in the feed dog area
some needles & thread are not compatable-try this

Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle

Brother 8500D sewing/emb machine - upper thread stops feeding

If the thread is hanging up at the spool - this could be the way it was manufactured, a nick in the spool end or the thread is unwinding too fast, puddling and wrapping around the spool pin.

Keep the bobbin case and surrounding area clean and free of thread tangles and snips. Thread tangles in this area can cause the machine to stop.

When the presser foot is down on any sewing machine, the tension closes and you cannot manually pull the thread through.

Sulky and C & C black tends to fray more than other brands of thread.

If the problem continues, the machine will need to be serviced by a professional.

Can not get the brother XL2600i to stitch the top thread does not catch the thread coming out of the bobbin. so it does not stitch

Make sure the needle has been properly installed - flat side to the back of the machine.

Thread the top thread with the presser foot up - always.

Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the correct direction and through the correct guides.

Hold onto the thread tail at the needle and lower (by hand and not the power pedal) and raise the needle to pull the bobbin thread to the top of the machine.

Take both thread tails under the presser foot and to the back of the machine before you begin to sew.
