I recently bought a CRP-DHSR0609F IH Rice Cooker, but when i cook a stew or porridge, the rice cooker "spits" out a lot (150 to 200 ml) liquid during steam release What am i doing wrong? Please help

I have both and use both for different things. The rice cooker cooks faster than the slow cooker. What the Crockpot does really well, the rice cooker cannot do. For example, with the crock pot, you can buy less expensive cuts of meat and because of the slow cook method, they will be tender, juicy, and delicious. You can make soups, stews and casseroles in a crock pot and the great thing is that you can turn it on low, go to work, and when you come home, dinner is done. You can cook the same types of things in a rice cooker but you can't leave it all day. You CAN saute', fry, etc,. in your rice cooker which you can't do in a crock pot but for dense veggies and tougher cuts of meat, stew beef for example, there's no comparison. I have an Oster Rice Cooker and Steamer which I use nearly every day. I cook rice, obviously, casseroles, veggies, spaghetti and meatballs, all kinds of side dishes and soups in it. I use the crockpot several times a week but more often in the Fall and Winter when I make soups, stews, chilis, roasts and BBQ. Oh my gosh, you have to try BBQ Ribs in the crock pot! They melt in your mouth. Go to Yahoo! Groups. You'll find all kinds of great info for both your rice cooker and crock pot. I have one of the fancier, more expensive crock pots because I take it to work with me one day a week for lunch. The lid seals and it comes with a carrier. If you do most of your cooking at home, you can spend a little less and get a good one. I recommend getting one that has at least 3 heat settings though. Different foods require different temps. Not familiar with this particular model, but most rice cookers use basket for steaming vegies, not rice. Leave basket out and you should get cooked rice!!
Also:Put butter, oil, or margarine in with rice, or spray pan with PAM when dry and empty to avoid sticking problems. Enjoy!

SOURCE: Need directions for Comet stove top rice cooker

Fill the bottom to the line with water. Put two cups of rice in the top and two cups of water. Put on stove top on high until lower water is boiling, turn to medium heat. For white rice check after about 20 minutes, if water is assorbed and rice is tender, fluff with a fork...eat. If it needs a few more minutes of cooking, no problem.
Brown rice will take about 45 minutes.
I have used my stove top cooker for at least 35 years...ordered it with box top and some money from Comet Rice.

Burned rice : - 1 cup of rice added 2.5 cups water, glutinous rice setting done in about 18 min. 4 hours later its all brown and in 1 solid block rock solid.


When the rice first gets done, leave it on warm for a few then unplug it. Whatever you don't eat right away put in the fridge for later.

Cuckoo crp-hd1054f , steam comes out from sides when cooking


Mine was the same after I got it for 3 years the top lid round rubber was degraded. I guess you need to replace the rubers or the whole top lid. The part might be available from cuckoo customer service.

My Cuckoo CRP-HDP1010F pressure cooker seems to have lost its seal and won't pressure cook any more. We've cooked a lot more than rice in it, and it's become fairly messy--we're forever wiping up liquid...


1. it is best to replace the top-corner rubber seal before a year have passed, as a prevention measure to retain moisture and pressure (contact their official line or site, to verify this is the right part for your model):

2. if however you have used it extensively, and cooked more than rice in it : the metallic cover itself may have deformed (difficult to be verified visually by looking at it) in which case the whole top replacement will be considerable that it would be more efficient to buy a new one .

Can the rice cooker be used as a crock pot?


Most crockpot recipes cannot only be made in a rice cooker, they can be made much faster. I have both but I almost never use my crockpot. Apparently the crockpot, because it cooks so much longer, makes meat, etc, more tender than a rice cooker, but I normally use mine for soups and stews, and it does a great job. Also, crockpots don't make the best rice, and it take them 2 or 3 times as long to do it, whereas rice cookers make PERFECT rice. You can also fry and sautee things with a rice cooker in a pinch, or as the first step in a recipe. And most things you can make in a pot, like those noodle packages where you just add water or milk, etc, can be made in a rice cooker even easier, since they don't need to be stirred! I got my rice cooker as a present and used it only for occasional rice the first year. Then I started getting creative and it has never let me down. If I could pick only one cooking appliance to have for the rest of my life, it would probably be either the microwave (just for pure convenience sake, and popcorn. :P) or the rice cooker.

Rice cooker spits rice juice all over counter


I had the same problem when I cooked brown rice in my rice cooker! I found that adding a tablespoon of butter on top of the cooking rice solves the problem. (A friend told me it works when cooking beans in a pot, so I figured it would help with rice too, and it did!)
