What does POP3 and IMAP accounts mean

Hi,
POP3( Post Office Protocol), this means that if i send you an email then if you have a POP3 account then my email will directly be delivered to your mailbox( for eg.Microsoft Outlook ) after getting filtered from the server. The mail then delivered will be automatically saved into your hard drive. The IMAP( Internet Message Access Protocol ) is bit more complex than POP3 accounts, IMAP accounts in general are handled by the webmail servers ( for eg. gmail.com, yahoomail.com etc. ). The main feature of the IMAP accounts is that these are handled over the internet.
Lets say if you have an email account with gmail.com then the only way we access our emails is by connecting to the internet, because all the emails are stored on the internet on the web-server.
To check the type of account you can contact your internet service provider.

Conclusion: Emails stored over the internet are IMAP accounts and emails stored in your hard drive are of generally POP3 accounts.

Hope it Helps
Thanks and Regards
Anand Sachan

Sitting up e-mail account

Well, if you are using Yahoo, you need to buy yahoo plus to get the settings found and working.

POP3 or IMAP is not free. Gmail give it for free. If you have a gmail, goto settings on top right corner and goto forwarding tab. Here you have to activate imap or pop3 and get settings from bottom.
