How many amps per kilowatt


Kilowatt refers to 1,000 watts. Watts divided by Volts equals Amps.
If your referring to a conversion using a standard of 120 Volts which is what's common in the U.S., then your answer is 8.33... Amps. If your interested in other electrical calculations Google "Ohm's Law." Very useful formulas. V= Volts, I= Amps, W= Watts, R= Resistance.
Kilowatt Hr. = 1,000 Watts operating continuously for one hour.

Will the patton electric heater significantly raise my electric bill


1500 watts is 1.5 kilowatts. Run it for 1 hour and you have 1.5 kilowatt hours. My electricity costs .08 per kilowatt hour so, when I run my 1500 watt space heater, it costs me a whopping .12 per hour to operate. I can afford 12 cents per hour, compared to oil at $3.50 per gallon and a burner that burns up to 3 gallons per hour.

Multilpy kilowatt hour x the number of kilowatts used. That is your yearly cost. In my area its $72 a year.

How much electricity does the cooler use each month?


Electricity is charged by Kilowatts per hour - There is a very easy formula for you to determine how much electricity your unit consumes.

Locate a sticker on your unit, it will usually say something like 120VAC follow by a number with A....... example 120VAC (which means 120Volts alternative current) and 5A (5 amps). Locate those 2 numbers, multiply them together.

Here is the formula: V*A=W (Volts * Amps = Watts)

So example if you have 120V 4A, that makes 480 W !

Sometimes on some units it already says the wattage, expressed in W Example 100 W !

Once you determined the WATTAGE, divide it by 1000, that gives you your KILOWATTS.

So example, unit uses 400 W..... you will do 400 / 1000 = 0.4 KiloWatts / hour

Next, locate your utility bill and see how much they charge per Kw/h. Multiply your unit's Kw/h * hours per day operation * rate = the cost per hour !

Example

0.4 kh/w * 10 hours * 0.07 (7 cents) = 28 cents per day!

This requires a little math....

BTU - amount of heat it takes to raise one pound of water 1 degree F.

I gallon of water = about 8.54 pounds

91 gallons of water = about 777 pounds = 777 pounds x 70 degree rise = 54,390 BTU.

1 Therm (what the gas company measuers in) is 100,000 btus

1 therm costs about $.45 (45 cents) depending on where you are

54,390/100,000 x $.45 = about $.25 per hour

This cost can vary somewhat depending on the inlet water temperature, gas cost, and the efficiency of the hot water heater

Most electric water heaters have 2 heaters - an upper and a lower, each with it's own thermostat. These are readily accessible by removing the screw covers on the side of the tank. Careful - the thermostats have 240VAC on the terminal screws (unless you have a small 120VAC heater) if the circuit breaker or fuses feeding the heater are still on - turn them off before proceeding. After removing the two screw covers and pulling back the insulation you will see temperature (screw) adjustments for the upper and lower thermostats, with a temperature indicating pointer attached to each screw. Set both thermostats to 125 degrees or so. Push the insulation back in place, replace the covers and turn the circuit breaker back on that feeds the water heater. You should have warm water within 15 minutes and hot water within a hour or so.

If the water still does not heat, then you have to troubleshoot to find the problem. With a voltmeter determine if 240VAC is actually getting to the water heater. Remember, the upper element has priority over the lower element, and if the water is cold, the upper element will try to turn on and this locks out the lower element (only one element is allowed to heat at any given time). The lower element comes on ONLY after the upper thermostat is satisfied. Therefore if the upper heating element is burned out you will never get any hot water. If you suspect this, TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE HEATER and take a resistance check of the upper element.

Daily cost to operate


electric is billed at so many cents per kilowatt hour. a kilowatt hour is 1000 watts per hour. if your heater is rated at 3000 watts, running it for one hour will consume 3 kilowatts of energy at whatever your utility charges per kilowatt. if the amount on your bill is .026 per Kw it'll be 2.6 cents per hour.

The Efficiency Factor (EF) is a guide to a dehumidifier's operating cost. The EF is the amount of water, in litres, a dehumidifier removes at 27°C (80.6°F) and 60 per cent relative humidity for each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity. If electricity costs 8 cents a kilowatt hour, which it does in many parts of Canada, a unit with an EF of 1.2 will remove 15 L (32 U.S. pints or 3.3 imperial gal.) foreach dollar in electricity costs. An advanced unit with an EF of 2.4 will remove 30 L (63 U.S. pints, 6 1/2 imperial gal.) of water for each electrical dollar spent. Because condensation gives off heat a dehumidifier acts as a heat source. This can be useful in spring or fall, when basements tend to be cool. In mid-summer, the heat added by a dehumidifier is counterproductive.
