SOURCE: Weed eater GTI 17 won't run on high speed

A couple of things may work...
Make sure you have the correct Oil / Fuel mixture, if it is incorrect the motor may have problems running.
Also take off the bottom where the cord is wound up, make sure there hasn't been any grass get wound up inside it, this will cause it to stall out on high RPM.

SOURCE: The trimmer starts like a dream but only runs with choke on

sounds like the carb needs to be removed and cleaned. It the chunk of metal that has the fuel line going to it on top of the engine.

Use a phillip screwdriver and possible a small ratchet to break it down and clean it thuroghly with gasoline.

After you get it back together and have cleaned it up as much as possible, crack her up with full choke again. this time though, allow it to run and barely ramp up the rpms enough to give it a little lug. When the engine seems to begin losing power, (these adjustments should be as small as possible until you get her running smooth) dial the choke back just enough to ramp up the rpms. This will probably take a few tries, but most definately should work in your case.

Once the trimmer is running smooth with the choke off you will be good to go.

Many times our trimmers and other 2cycle engines dont get the proper attention to keep them running up to par. Take the time to consider the unique properties of your tools to determine any possible future repair. Anytime you have and engine that burns a home mixed fuel there will be the risk of trash in the fuel system

GOOD LUCK AND PLS RATE THIS POST!!!! :D

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor. Sounds like you have gotten some trash in the cauburetor, check your fuel container to see if more trash is in it.
Sometimes you can get by with priming the carburetor a few times, and letting it run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets, but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower/weedeater is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, You will first seat the jet screws and count the number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me,
Thanks
Good Luck,
I hope this helped

Starting procedure

Terry: According to eHow.com:

"
  • Put on a pair of safety glasses. Remove the fuel cap from the Weed Eater and set it aside. Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline that has been mixed with quality 2-stroke oil in a 40:1 ratio. Replace the fuel cap.
  • Move the Weed Eater to a safe place and lay it flat on the ground. Depress the fuel bulb located beneath the carburetor approximately six times to prime the engine. Press it slowly so that fuel has adequate time to traverse the fuel line.
  • Slide the handlebar-mounted engine "On/Stop" switch to the "On" position. Slide the choke lever beneath the fuel tank to the "Full" position.
  • Depress the "Throttle Lock" lever located beside the engine "On/Stop" switch. Keeping the lever depressed, squeeze the throttle trigger. Release the throttle lock. This sequence holds the trigger in the depressed position, which aids in starting the Weed Eater.
  • Roll the Weed Eater so that it is resting on the engine and the trimmer head shield only. This will allow the spinning trimmer head to avoid contact with the ground. Brace the Weed Eater by holding it to the ground with one hand. Using your other hand, pull the starter rope quickly until the engine begins to run. Do not pull the rope more than a dozen times. If it fails to start by then, squeeze the throttle trigger and continue to pull until the engine starts.
  • Allow the Weed Eater to warm up for about 15 seconds, then slide the choke lever to the "Off" position. Let the trimmer run for another minute without touching the throttle lever. After the Weed Eater has warmed up, squeeze the throttle trigger once to disengage the throttle lock. The trimmer is now operational.

I have a Craftsman 32cc weed trimmer, can't give gas, it stalls

Usually the diaphram is wore out. It is a relatively inexpensive part. Does it run better with a little choke? If the answer is yes chances are it's the diaphram. Also sometimes the adjustment screws can move. There are two, one for low speed, and one for high. With the engine warmed up make small movements on the screws (some are marked low, and high) in, and out adjust til the engine runs at its optimum.
    Hope this helps!

Ryboi weed eater is **** - wont start, can't get wheel head off

Try cleaning the carb with carb and choke cleaner. I spray carb cleaner into the opening behind the air filter and then try starting it. It takes awhile to get started. If that don't work remove the carb and spray it down also. When you get it started play with the choke a little. Move it back and forth till it runs smoothly. Mine sometimes will only run of half choke. Mine is a 4 cycle.

    good luck
