I have repaired mines. It was found in the trash dump, just before street curb side trash collection. It is a very sophisticated lawn mower. It taken me a month to restore it. The problem is the housing is poor design and does not hold the pin switch securely. This is not a simple on/off switch. It is switch module with two momentary switches built in to it to work simultaneously. The hot is a normally open momentary switch and the neutral is a normally closed momentary switch. Two things must occurred simultaneously for the lawn mower to work. The AC hot has to close and the neutral to open. This is a split phase AC motor. The switch has four connectors to it. The first two has black wires to it, for the hot, that is normally open. The second two has a white wire and red wire to it for the motor's start up winding. The orange connects with the plug's white, neutral. A new substitute switch will be two individual momentary switch, one for the two black wires will be normally open and the two for the red and white wires from the motor start coil will be normally close. It will take two fingers to operate the lawn mower. I recommend you to buy a new and each switch from Black and Decker.
The problem with the system is not the switch, but the poorly designed switch box housing. Often, there is nothing wrong with the switch. I tested mines and it works fine. The problem is the switch box housing does not keep the switch in the correct position for the higher tension spring lever to press against it to operate. I use small washers to stack between the rear of the switch inside and reassembled the switch box upside down by turning the handle upside down, so the washers and switch do not fall out. Once I am finished assembling the switch box and position it on the handle, then I position the handle back to the normal top side and attach the handle back to the lawn mower. I am finished.

Such motors employ separate run and start windings connected in parallel across the acpower source. 1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.

8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.

10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read

Powerpack 400 plus When 115v switch is turned on AC light is on but alarm sounds and has no output


Hi, I bought a new Black & Decker one of these and when I got it home and charged it, it acted the same way. I assume it has an internal battery. These gel-cell spill-proof lead acid batteries will dry out and one cell will loose power for a load, but will indicate "full". 99% of these batteries have replacements available on line under S L A (spill-proof lead acid) batteries, or if you have a friend with a WW GRAINGER account, they stock them.

How do I know if my battery is bad or if my charger is bad? The red light on my charger no longer lights up when I plug it in. This is for my Black & Decker Firestorm 12volt drill. Thanks


With a multimeter set it to 12 volt dc and place the leads on the two parts that would be touching the battery. If you see voltage then it is a bad battery.

I need a replacement for the 3 sealed lead acid batteries in the Black & Decker "Simple Start". It sat too long & sulphated. The batteries are "SEL C83-6"

Can i run my minn kota 30 trolling off my power box


Are you referring to an inverter by a "power box"? That term doesn't really describe the device. I'm going to assume it's an inverter you're talking about, a device that takes DC and turns it into AC. I'm not sure about that, but you should be able to plug a converter (turns AC into DC) of the right voltage, 12 to 14 volts DC into a generator on the boat and run it. I'm assuming the trolling motor runs off 12 volts DC and NOT gasoline. Be sure to check that before doing anything. Most do run off a large car or RV battery. Lead Acid Batteries for boats and cars produce 12.7 volts DC if they are in good shape and should have six cells (about 2volts per cell). 6 volt batteries are somewhat rare these days and have 3 two volt cells. Two of them in series will also power it.

I discuss the solution to your problem in my review. I am using a replacement AGM Lead Acid battery that increased my mowing distance and does not take more power to charge because the battery has an lower internal resistance. The battery is a Power Sonic, PSH-12180FR, 21Amp Hour unit. You will need to order two of them.

We should all do our part to save the enviroment and encourage the growth of the solar and wind power industries.

Cordless electric lawn mowers go a long ways towards these goals. I recently purchased the Black & Decker Cordless Electric Lawnmower the CMM1200.
