Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

Whirlpool WTW4900BW1 Washing Machine Loud Banging on spin cycle.

I have a Whirlpool WTW4900BW1 Washing machine. Recently purchased from an older couple who said it worked well with no problems. When I picked it up from them, I had to lay it down on its side in my SUV because it was too tall. Once we hooked it up, it works well. Fills properly, spins and drains properly. However, when the spin cycle starts there is a loud banging noise (sounds like tub is hitting outside washer case) It happens a few times, then stops and may do it again a few minutes later. It is very loud. There is also a slight grinding? sound when the washer is agitating but my wife thinks that part sounds normal. Just wanted to mention it in case it is related. I looked a little bit online and saw the suspension may be worn out. I checked to make sure they are all in place in the frame and on the outer tub, and they are. Not sure if the issue is from laying it down (which I probably shouldn't have done) or something else. Please help!

Transporting a washing machine in any position except upright can be fatal. The reason? The original packing material is no longer in place.

My whirlpool top loader extra large washing macine

Hi,

Many late model washing machines use a direct-drive system to agitate and spin. They don't use belts or pressure wheels to transfer power and motion from the motor to the transmission. The motor is coupled directly to the transmission. If the motor is running and there is no agitation or spinning of the tub, the culprit is usually a plastic coupling between the motor and transmission or the transmission itself.

Loud banging noise during spin cycle

If you balanced the machine, the only other problem could be the load itself. Either the load is too great or if washing a single item its falling to one side, tilting the drum and when spinning it will thump. Try even lodes.

My washing machine makes a very loud banging noise at the start and end of the spin cycle and there is a scraping sound throughout the cycle as though there is metal in the drum. What could be causing...

If you have an older machine it is the un-even load distribution in the wash tub. The wash is not evenly distributed in the wash tub. The wash tub don't spin evenly and wobble instead.

On the spin cycle, it makes a banging noice, rythmic, about 2 per second....only on the spin cycle... can you help???

The spin cycle is used to rid the water by centrifugal force. As the tub spins, the water iis forced out of the clothes. The banging noise comes from the weight of clothes being on one side making the load unbalanced. The machine will absorb some minor unbalancing. If it gets real loud & the machine starts dancing, shut the machine off by raising the lid, when tub stops, rearrange clothes.
