usually on the bottom of the mouse there is a little door with two notches or a single vertical notch which you need to carefully pry open and then insert your batteries as shown inside with + and - denotions.

SOURCE: how do I insert battery
on the bottom there is a small indentation which you can use your finger or thumb or small screwdriver to slide open revealing a space where the batteries are. Open and replace and close.

Well, whomever posted a solution was incorrect with my mouse. Right underneath the mouse cover there is a battery compartment, that holds the two batteries in place. To remove that cover you will need something to pry lightly on the lip clip pushing it forward toward the wheel. Remember just a little pressure otherwise you could damage said mouse. The clip is toward the back right above the batteries. good luck

Tips for a great answer:
Install the batteries (2 AA batteries) into the mouse. Locate the red laser light underneath the mouse. Next to the light, there is a small button that will require a small object, such as the end of a pen, to press. Press and hold this light for 3 seconds. You should observe several flashes of red light and then a steady red light when it is ready
