Iced tea spilled on HP laptop, will not power on, please help?

Salvage the data from the drives and have them copied to your new laptop. At the very least you probably fried your motherboard & damaged your keyboard. To repair them is probably more costly than purchasing a new laptop(voice of experience). The drives may or may not work. Your main concern is the data. You can purchase a hard drive power adapter from ebay to power the removed laptop drive(s) and connect to a new computer via USB port to copy all of your files for about $25 and a little bit of time. Or have a computer shop do it for a fee.

I need user name & password to do my system recovery pls

I suggest you contact Acer support for help. If you do not know your own username and password for your computer, you may not be able to do anything but a complete system reset, back to factory conditions. If you have files on the hard disk that you need to save, you may need to remove the hard disk from the computer and put it in a drive enclosure that you can connect to another computer and try to copy the files off it before you have to wipe the hard drive with a new installation.

HOW TO GET THE BACK OFF

Break it off..........

In order to take the Base Enclosure (Bottom Cover) off, you would have to break it off.

The Acer Aspire 5000 series of Notebook PC's, disassembles from the Top down. When you are done you are looking at an empty Base Enclosure,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ACER-ASPIRE-3000-3004-ZL5-5000-LAPTOP-BOTTOM-CASE-COVER-LOWER-BASE-3AZL5BATN05-/181127078788

You have to;
Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Remove the Harddrive Compartment Cover, Harddrive, Memory Compartment Cover, Ram Memory, Wireless Module, Wireless Antenna wires out of laptop body, Optical Disk Drive, (DVD drive), Display Assembly, (LCD Module), Keyboard Cover, Keyboard, Palm Rest Cover, Motherboard, and so on..........

Then you have the Base Enclosure. (Bottom Cover)

WEAR an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.

Acer Aspire 5000 series of Notebook PC > Service Manual (Free),

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

Go to the paragraph that starts with Aspire 1200. (1200 in Blue)
Drop down to the 6th line (4920G), scroll across; and click on the blue -> 5000

I am a complete novice, can you help me please? I have purchased a 3.5 SATA/IDE back up enclosure to transfer files from old to new desktop. I have removed frame holding old harddrive into tower but cannot...

You want to remove the hard disk from old computer, connect it to the enclosure, and connect it externally to the new computer, right?
Now you have a problem connecting hard disk to the enclosure.
Usually there are no SATA/IDE enclosures. They are either IDE or SATA.
If the data connector in the hard disk (HDD) is rectangular with around 40 pins inside, it is an IDE HDD. Else if it has L shaped horizontal connector, it is a SATA HDD.
I suggest you to take the hard disk to the store and ask for a matching enclosure. If you bought the wrong one, they might replace it with the correct one.
If you feel you want to do it yourself, let us know. However an IDE HDD cannot be connected to a SATA enclosure and vise versa.
I sincerely hope you will get to copy the required files to your new computer. However before copying, it is better to install a reliable virus guard.

I have a acer aspire t180 desktop with a 250gb hitachi scsi (ide) hd. I would like to know which hard drives are compatible so that I can exchange it. thanks

It's a SATA harddrive, not SCSI.

Serial ATA

Acer Support > Aspire T180 > Specifications >

http://www.acersupport.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireT180/AspireT180sp2.shtml

Will use up to a 400GB SATA harddrive according to Acer.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics.
Another name is PATA.
Parallel ATA
Used to distinguish between IDE and SATA.

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCSI

Exchange it?
Your harddrive has the Operating System on it.
A new harddrive will not have an O/S on it.
(Windows XP is an example of an O/S)

It would be much easier to install the harddrive you wish into an external enclosure, and plug the external enclosure's USB cable into your T180.

One example of a desktop size harddrive SATA external enclosure,
(3.5 inch SATA external enclosure.
3 and 1/2 inches across in width, for a desktop harddrive.
Laptop HD's are 2.5)

Hi, I have a Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 and it stop working. The light only dimly flicker. I think this started when i accidentally plug my Acer laptop adapter to the power supply of the drive. Is this...

Hello,

Considering the drives adapter operates at 12 volts and most Acer laptops run at 19.5 volts, I'd guess you fried the circuit board in the enclosure if not the drive itself.

The good news is you can replace the enclosure and test the drive in a new enclosure to verify which is the case. If a new enclosure works, you're done, if not then you will likely need the help of the pros to retrieve any files you need from the damaged drive.

Either head to your local PC shop and have the techs transfer the drive into a new enclosure for testing or click www.aitsavemyfiles.com and they can help you pick one out online if you're in a remote area. Either way if the enclosure works you're done, if it doesn't you've fried the drive itself and will need to see the above company for assistance finding your files.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Acer monitor swtiches itseolf off in i9n about 15

After much ado and waiting for tech support from Acer, remembered that some years ago something similar happened with a printer so I downloaded a new driver from acer for the monitor onto another computer, copied it to cd and then with much fiddling installed this on the acer, as it was installing monitor started to flicker and finally lit up again normally. Now working perfectly! When tech support phones, will tell them!!!!!!

My laptop acer aspire 3000 wont boot. I can use the erecovery but i need help saving all of my data.

There are a number of ways to do this. One of the easiest is removing the drive from the laptop and placing the drive in an external enclosure. You can get them for 20-40 at any computer store. Once you've done this you can access the hard drive from another computer and copy them off the hard drive then run the recovery and you should be set.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask, please don't forget to rate my answer.

Thanks!
