Question about Lynx Refrigerators

Open Question

Our lynx fridge / freezer which is not getting down to the required temp. The motor runs intermittently and from time to time will pulse with the temperature & alarm lights going on & off with it.

Background info. This happened about 8 weeks ago which we fixed by defrosting the unit. We have done that again this time but the unit is not getting down to the required temps. (ie freezer not freezing and fridge temp at room temp). Last Friday our solar / mains power switch blew and we only had solar available to use till Monday when we were able to transfer to mains power which we are running on at this time. The solar batteries were not sufficient to keep running for this length of time even though we were only using it for the fridge / freezer. Consequently when the battery deteriorated the power started to flicker and after this the fridge /freezer alarm came up and our problem started. The fridge is set at 4 deg & the freezer at - 20 deg. Both these lights are showing as well as the alarm light however both the fridge & the freezer are not getting down to these temperatures.

Hi,
Sounds like a couple of different issues here....

First, the defrost element may checkout, but is it being turned on??? It would seem as though the controlboard/timer are bad and not bringing it on to defrost the coils...
However the coils maybe frosting up more then usual because it also seems as though either the unit is low on charge or the condenser coils are plugged up and the heat is not being disipated properly...
Check the condenser coils to make sure they are clean....if the unit still is having a hard time cooling then it is likely that you have a small leak in the refrigerant system and it will need to be found, repaired, and the system recharged...

Here are a couple of tips that I wrote that will give you more details about hese things...

HI,

All i can say is you will require a tech to get this fixed.

check freezer for frost build up and if fan is blowing, check condenser, make sure its clean, and fan blowing,

check vents in refrig. make sure no blockage, controls should be in the middle setting,
check make sure compressor is running. For this you will require a tech..

Goodluck.

Freezer one side, refrigerator the other side. Compressor is in the bottom at the rear. Often ice and water dispensers in the door.

Whirpool wgi fridge freezer, fridge not cooling?

Most frideges get all their cooling from the freezer. There will be a fan and duct in the back of the freezer that pushes cold air down into the fridge. If the duct is blocked with ice or the fan motor has quit. Your freezer will work fine but the fridge will barely cool at all. Check that the fan runs when the compressor is running, ( turn both temp knobs to the highest cooling and leave door open until comp. comes on). If the fan runs your duct is plugged. If not you need a new " Freezer Fan Motor". Most are simple to replace and cost around $100.00.

Amana evaporative fan intermittent

I would first suspect that the fan motor shaft just has gunk on it keeping it from starting -- clean & lubricate both ends of the motor.

If this doesn't solve the problem, it's the motor start capacitor -- could be inside the motor housing or could be outboard, connected to it via the wiring harness. A capacitor is a lot cheaper than a fan...

Lynx fridge freezer the freezer is working the fridge has stopped

check if there are frost at the back of the freezer wall, if there is then you have a defrost issue.

if not, check the vents if air is coming out on the fridge side. close the freezer door, press the door switch on the fridge side and feel the air. if there is no air, the evaporator fan could be shut.

if there is little air, check the vent, insert a small rigid wire, push the vent or flapper open and make the air stronger. you have a vent controll problem.

if there are ice in the vent, thaw it out and hope it won't freeze again.

IF THE COMPRESSOR IS COMING ON AND OFF IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, YOU MAY HAVE A BAD START DEVICE(RELAY) ON THE COMPRESSOR. IF THE COMPRESSOR RUNS FOR FIVE MINUTES OR MORE, CHECK THE FAN NEAR THE COMPRESSOR AND THE COILS
UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR. IF THINGS SEEM EXTREMELY
HOT, CLEAN THE COILS AND MAKE SURE THE FAN IS RUNNING. IF IT IS ALL O.K. YOU MAY HAVE A LEAK IN THE SEALED SYSTEM( TUBING WHERE THE FREON FLOWS).
THAT WOULD REQUIRE A CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN LICENSED TO HANDLE FREON TO MAKE REPAIRS.

Trio: humming and temp in freezer rising

It sounds like the condensor fan motor is seizing up. This is the fan that cools the compressor down. Does the outside of the fridge feel excessively hot to touch? Can you feel air being circulated under the fridge or behind the fridge? It could also be a faulty defrost timer. Try to identify where the buzzing is coming from and if it is the condensor fan you can put a normal standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor untill the repairman can get to you.
