P030 code on a 1997 jeep Cherokee. I have replaced the spark plugs and wires. The distributor cap and rotor. Changed out catalytic converter too. Code still pops up. Any Ideas out there?

A code P0304 may mean that one or more of the following has happened: Faulty spark plug or wire Faulty coil (pack), Faulty oxygen sensor(s), Faulty fuel injector, Burned exhaust valve, Faulty catalytic converter(s), Running out of fuel, Poor compression, Defective computer.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs/wires). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if equipped). Otherwise, check the coil packs. Sometimes the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Are you trying to change coil position? This could mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- Faulty spark plug or wire
- Faulty coil (pack)
- Faulty fuel injector

- Poor compression

- Defective computer

If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Do you have fuel pressure at intake?Have you scaned for codes? Is there any spark at distributor cap?

Stalls and backfires 1997 jeep grand cherokee limited replaced the map sensor, coil rotor. distributer, spark plugs, spark plugs wires. throttle body pressure sensor ,ingnition coil IAT sensor. amd still...

you need to check the fuel pressure,and did you mean you replaced the distributor or just the rotor because inside the distributor is a pickup plate that some times causes this also 02 sensor can cause this.is your check engine light on if so go to chain auto parts store they usually read your codes for free.

1995 jeep grand cherokee with 4.0 engine back fires through air fliter box when driving and the vehicle loses power.

Possibilities can include:

Clogged catalytic converter - needs replacement or removal.

engine timing off - adjust the camshaft position sensor.

distributor cap & rotor - replace along with new spark plugs and wires

You need a Chilton or Haynes manual for a list of the codes.

Autozone can give you a print out and delete the stored codes Then any pop ups will be current. The code you posted could be a year old

P030 ???? You mean P0300 random miss fire ? Vacuum leak ? Intake manifold gaskets !

Weak valve springs ? I would have it check by a qualified repair shop before having any work done . It is possibly , weak or broke valve springs .

Mark, That code has nothing to do with valve springs. Jeep valve springs are good for over 300,000 miles. I have never seen one fail. Save your money. The print out from Autozone should have translated that code. The Chilton manual is a cheap reference. You wont have to throw money at what people tell you.

You must not do a lot of vehicle repair , chrysler has cheap valve spring's , have seen a bunch of broken one's cause lean misfires. An chilton manuals are junk . Pay for a identfix or motologic subscription , Around $20 buck's an it's just like factory service repair info . Show's thing's a chilton manual will never have .
So mind your own business . Stop tell people stuff you have no clue about . I work for a chrysler dealer , have for twenty years . Chrysler engines are junk !
