Hi!
Have the same one and had the same problems years ago...
As there was nothing in the manual at the "Before Requesting Service Make sure by first checking the following points...." I decided to give to a pro. Unfortunately the first one told me it't about 100 bucks to repair. So I sad no, for that price I'll go and buy a used one and digitize my movies to DVD. But then I found an ad at the local newspaper about an electrician. I called him, he took the device and 2 day later he called me that it's ready. We didn't speak about the price so I was really pi**ed off he did it without asking... when I arrived he said it will be $15 !!! $1 for a broken capacitor and $14 for his half an hour work. It is still working. Don't let fool yourself, it's just a broken capacitor. He just took one out from an old TV and TADAAA! It works. I don't watch VHS tapes anymore, but it helped me to transfer my home movies to archival grade DVDs with a Pioneer standalone DVD burner. Again, in my case (had the same problem) it was only a capacitor!!!

After a long period of non-use,of my VCR, I recently tried to play a new VHS tape. It loaded properly, but refused to play it.

Could be the belts have become too old for the unit to function. you could try to take the unit apart to clean them.

Iam Trying to set a JVC remote to my TV but I dont have the manual for the remote. I think the remote model is 076N0ES010 it came with a VCR.

The 076N0ES010 came with two different JVC VCRs (HR-A591U and HR-A592U). The remote does not come with multiple codes and will only control JVC TVs. It's possible that it will not control JVC TVs after the VCRs were made (2003 is the listed release date for the HR-A592U). The manual for the HR-A591U is here: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/98/82885ien.pdf . See page 11 of the pdf.

You will need a different universal remote to control the VCR and the TV together. Alternatively, control each device separately.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Lost manual. Cannot get HR A591U JVC VCR program to record a future cable tv program. Seems I have tried everything but it does not record as I set up. It will record an existing show by pressing...

Timer Recording JVC VCR HR A591U
Timer recording can be programmed on-screen with
the remote control. The built-in timer allows automatic
unattended recording of up to 8 programs within 1
month.

EXAMPLE: Program a timer recording for the 26th day,
channel 125 (CATV), 11:00 - 11:30 PM on timer program
number 1 (Tape speed: EP).

When a TV is connected with an audio/video cable, turn the
TV and this VCR on and select the video input mode on the
TV.

• After timer recording is completed, the VCR turns off
automatically.
• You can program the timer recording while a regular
recording is in progress; the menu screens will not be
recorded.
• The timer recording will start at 20 seconds before the time
you predetermined.

Press MENU on the Remote.
Check the “TIMER REC SET”
option is selected, then press
ENTER.

Press SET –/+ to select one of
the program lines, then press
ENTER.

date, then press ENTER.

channel and tape speed as in
step 3.
NOTE: To record from external
source, press SET –/+
and set the channel to
"L". "L" will appear next
to CH 125 (or 69).

To enter other programs,
repeat step 2 through 4. Or,
press MENU twice to return
to the normal screen.

Press TIMER on the Remote.
The power will go off, the
TIMER REC indicator ( ) will
light and the VCR stands by
for recording.

To cancel a program:

Press the SET –/+ to select the
“TIMER REC SET” option in the
MENU. Then press SET –/+ to

When I playback a movie, I am not getting picture, just block spots and no voice. What could be the reason? please help

Open the cover. Follow these steps in this order: 1. Take a cotton swab and dip it it alcohol. rub it around the head and pinch roller carefully. 2. try the tape again. If no success, 3.take a blank piece of white paper, and put a tape in the VCR. VCR must be plugged in!
Carefully touch the paper against the spinning head and hold it there. Hope this helps!

VCR automatically goes into standby mode

If this unit shuts down after you turn it on, it is going into stanby because the microprocessor is not seeing the proper pulses from the mode switch. this could be due to an out of time mechanism because of a broken gear, bad mode switch, the loading basket is out of time or broken, or the capstain motor or the cylinlinder motor is not sending the PG and FG pulses to the microprocessor. These can also be due to a power supply voltage missing. You can check the voltages with a service manual and make sure they are not low. You will also need to get the mechanism manual and check the timing of the mechanism. Then check the mode switch you can get a manual from here http://www.servicemanuals.net/results.aspx?brand=15&model=HRS&type=SM&pos=281 Good Luck

JVC HR-S9500U

OK, found the problem. Another website had the same question on the HR-S9600U, the 9500's replacement:

http://www.cippico.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?p=528&sid=ce3dfc944e4539181195720b836021f4

I checked my vcr, and, sure enough, there was a sort of clicking sound coming from the drum area immediately before the unit would go into "Auto" mode. I removed the complete drum assembly, and tore into the little gearbox, and found the two black, plastic gears with inside pinions that drive the metal screws to change the video head position had each cracked and were slipping on the shafts. This caused the gearbox to bind up.

Using a jeweler's screwdriver, I roughed up the metal shaft and the inside of the gears where they slip onto the shafts, and glued them on using a two-part epoxy. I then re-assembled it all, sorta setting the screws about two turns after their contact with the base of the upper drum. Now, upon power-up, the drum adjusting motor toggles one direction, then the other, and the unit stays on. Playback seems OK.

So, there you go. Yay me....
