Can't upload pictures to computer doesn't show USB connection

I have a Canon Powershot SD 1100 IS camera. I have downloaded pictures from my camera many times. When I tried this time, it doesn't recognize the USB connection. That USB connection does work on my computer because I tried a memory stick in it. In the Zoom Browser Ex window, it says it does not detect my camera. I don't know what happened from this time to the last time I was able to download pictures. I don't think I changed any settings. Please help.

Am not sure how offten do you used the USB but in my case I use it frecuentely I own a kodak and I have to replace the USB cord at list every 4-5 times i use it.

I recomend u to buy a new one if this works the problem was in your old cord but if this wont work either you can returne the USB cord, its only to see if your old cord is the problem wish am 99.99% that it is .

Consider NOT installing the camera.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery or Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

It's a canon powershot sd 1100 that didn't come with an installation disk. Which wouldn't have done me any good any way, since my laptop doesn't have a disk drive.

You can download software, manuals, and more from the manufacturer's web site at

Need to download software for canon powershot sd 600

If you plug in your camera via USB to any computer, you should be able to access the card in the camera and transfer the files to the MY PICTURES location. You can also download Picasa which will do the same thing.

If you must use the software that came with the camera here is the site:

I'm experiencing the same problem. The only solution I've found so far is to just get a digital card reader that plugs into the USB port of the computer.
