I have a Rascal 318 power chair. All the lights on joystick blink three times. What is the problem?

When the power chair is turned on, the lights on the joystick come on and stay on continually indicating a full charge. When the joystick is moved in any direction all of the lights blink three times over and over again until the power chair turned off.

The Rascal Turnabout model 312 power chair has VR2 electronics made by Penny and Giles Drive Technology. The VR2 electronics will give you a flash code to indicate the problem with the power chair.
Based on what you are describing, you have a right motor fault.
This means there is a problem in the motor, the wiring, or the connections to the motor.

Let's take each of these in turn.
To make the checks on the various components, you need to remove the seating system.
Unplug the joystick cable leading to the base.
Remove the seating system from the base using the release lever and 1 or 2 people to lift it off the seat post and onto the ground.
Remove the cover from the base.
Check all the electrical connections in the base and make sure they are tight and pushed together making good contact.
Your power problem may be related to the batteries so you can check them while you are in the base. If your 2, U-1 batteries are more than 1 year old and test bad or weak replace them with new batteries. You can have them tested where you buy new ones or find someone with a load tester and you can test them yourself.
If all the electrical connections are tight, or if one of the connections was loose and the contact had backed out of the connector, fix it and you are home free. Test by scooting the seating system over on the floor and plugging in the joystick to test.
If you still have a fault code, find the wiring leading to the right motor. ( You should also check the left motor while you're under the hood because sometimes with mid wheel drive chairs the fault code is reversed when the motors are plugged in the controller). If you have a voltmeter, you can check out the motor. Unplug the motor at the connector. These motors may have 2 different style plugs that will release when you press the plastic lever and wiggle the plug out. Check it at the controller for good contact.
The plug should have 2 large wires for the motor and 2 smaller wires for the brake. The brake should read between 40 to 60 ohms and the motor should read between 0 and 1.5 ohms. If either of these is out of factory spec, replace the motor/brake assembly. If the gearbox is noisy or leaking, replace the motor/brake/gearbox assembly.
With that being said, you need to check and replace the batteries first if they are weak or bad.
If you are handy or know a good mechanic the assembly can be changed in 2 hours including testing and diagnosis,removal and replacement of the assembly.

SOURCE: When I turn my wheelchair on a service indicator light at bottom of joystick blinks 9 times. How do I fix this?

If: Battery indicator flashes the charge level is low
immediately after recharging.
Then it is a. Weak Batteries.
b. Charger malfunction.
c. Electrical malfunction
Solution a.Replace batteries.

SOURCE: Charged chair over 14 mins, unplugged and turned on and indicated full battery until I operated the chair. Try to drive and after few seconds abruptly stops then blinking red light.

OH please 14 minutes is no way near enough time to charge anything .try 14 hours

I have to push joystick back to go forward. An forward to go back. Much faster in reverse too

if you look under the seat and see that there are little black switches, one of them maybe broken. if there are no switches on the seat post. then your joystick thinks you are a front wheel drive instead of a rear wheel drive chair. The battery meter lights will flash a flash code when something is wrong. If the lights are flashing the same number of lights each time. get that number it is a flash code. if the lights are cascading up and down that indicates that the Joystick is locked. unlock by turning on the joystick and pushing the horn button twice within 10 sec. of turning on. Or push on button and hold the joystick gimbal forward until it beeps then back until it beeps. This should have it unlocked, if not Pride Jazzy Tech 800-800-8586

Light come on controller no flashing code lights joy stick does not work

The M51 could have the motor clutch levers in the free wheel/push mode and the joystick will not blink if this is the case. Make sure that the chair cannot be pushed. If it can be pushed it means it is in free wheel and you need to lock the motors in gear.

If it is in gear and the joysticks green light does not change color or blink it could be that the joystick is bad. When nothing happens and the lights don't blink when you push the joystick knob the chairs controller basically isn't recognizing the joystick movement.
Time to have the joystick repaired or more. Have a technician look at it.

When i plug the cable into the joystick control (MK5SOJ+) all the lights around the horn button blink on and off motor wont engage and it won't shut off til pull out the cable do i need a


When you say the power cable I hope you mean the cable that comes from the main control module under the chair. I want to make sure you are not talking about the AC power cable that plugs from the chair to a wall outlet. So if we are on the same page about the cable is the one going from the joystick to the main control module under the chair and all you do is plug it in and the green speed lights start to blink this would indicate the joystick is bad.

Where to plug in charger

The XLR plug plugs into the front of the Joystick. The hole in the front of the joystick looks like two eyes a nose. The XLR plug has three pins the only connect one way in the joystick. procedure is plug into the joystick first then plug the power cord into the outlet on the wall in your home. No extension cords please. This is an off board charge it means it is not mounted to the chair. Strege Mobility

The problem is bad communication between the joystick and the conroller or power module. By replacing the jostick cables you will see if that fixes the problem. Check with your provider (where you got your chair) to see if they have an extra joystick cable or can loan you one from a chair that they might have. Now there are 2 cables one from the joystick to the base of the chair and one from the base to the controller either could be bad but try the one to the joystick first Hope this helps

ajnss I need more information. can you turn the power on at the joystick? are you getting all the lights for battery level lit? are any of the lights blinking on the joystick? do you hear a clicking noise when you try to move the chair? Give me as much info as you can thanks

The lights blink but it want move when you pwer

The chair is in lock mode. To unlock, turn on, when the lights start to scroll, push the joystick forward and keep it there until you hear the beep. When it beeps, pull it back and wait for the beep, once the beep sounds let go and listen, if you hear a high pitch beep, success. If it doesn't work the first time, just do it again. Sometimes it may not work right away but don't panic, just follow the steps again.

All six lights blink on my Jet 3

I just had the same problem with my uncle's power chair. The number of "blinks" indicates a problem code to the technicians. My chair needed the joystick control assembly replaced. Once replaced, evrything was back to normal. 'Not a cheap fix but much needed. Good luck my friend!!
