SOURCE: Unable To Keep Pilot Light Lit!

I have a Williams top vent gravity wall furnace (model 5009622) and I had the same problem. I had to take the cover off the furnace -- screw on top and two at the bottom (open the access door and there is one screw on each side) to get to the reset button for the vent safety shutoff system. On my furnace it's on the left side toward the top of the unit. I pressed the little red reset button and it's been working ever since. If your furnace is properly installed and doesn't have bird's nest in the chimney, it should work fine. Good luck!

SOURCE: pilot light wont stay lit

You need to replace the pilot safety switch which is usually a Thermocouple. It is connected by a thin tube from the gas valve to a bulb near the pilot burner. It should be available at Home Depot or online.

SOURCE: Pilot Light won't stay lit on wall furance

The low voltage wiring and the thermostat has noting to do with the pilot function of the wall furnace, check to see if when you have the pilot lit manually, while holding the button in does the flame impinge on the thermocouple and does the flame try to wrap around the thermocouple? if not the thermocouple and pilot flame need to be adjusted so that it impinges on the TC, if it does have a good flame impingment, then you probably have a bad TC from the factory, call them and have them send you a new one if still under warrenty.

You need to bled the line longer and when you get lited hold down for a good minute. When the gas gave out ,there could trash in the line.I would take the line off and blow gas through it undtil you can smell it.

The pilot light does not remain on when the button is released. While holding the button in and turning on the water no ignition happens. Gas cylinder is full. Please assist. Thanks! Mark

Your gas valve works in conjunction with a therm o electric valve it is a 2 stage operation. 1 is when you push it in and light the pilot. 2 is when you release the button. This prevents full gas to the burner and prevents ignition taking place if the pilot light fails. The thermo-couple provides a small electric current around 30ma which holds the therm o electric valve open and in turn keeps the pilot light on. The thermo-couple needs to be replaced, if it still cuts out then ths therm o electric valve which is a n integral part of the gas valve has failed and a replacement gas valve would be needed.

Just need to know how to light the pilot on a Montgomery Ward wall furnace model sfb-50219

I can't speak to the specific model but with most pilot lights, there is a switch setting or button for lighting. If you release that switch or button too soon, the pilot will not remain light. Hold the switch or button ON while you light the pilot. Keep holding the switch or button for about a minute until the heat sensor is sufficiently warmed that the pilot light stays on. Good luck.

I want to light the pilot but do not know how what is the red button for and do you turn on the gas to light pilot?

nope - don't turn on gas at the Range's front control panel to light the pilot lite.
but you do need to turn on the gas to the kitchen range at the plumbers black pipe valve to the Range.

To light the pilot light:
(1) depress the red button (that feeds the gas to the pilot light orifice)
(2) using lighter/match/lit rolled-up newspaper, etc, light the tiny amount of gas coming from orifice
(3) continue to hold dow red button for 1 or 1.5 minutes (this allows heat to bend the bi-metal contact)
(4) after 1-1.5 minutes with a lit pilot light, release the red button - the pilot should remain lit
(5) you're done lighting the pilot lite - turn on the oven (or broiler).

Light pilot light

Turn control knob to "Pilot" and press it down. While holding knob down, light pilot with a match. After pilot lights continue to hold knob down for about one minute. When you release the knob the pilot should remain on. If it goes out then the thermocouple needs to be replaced.

Pilot Light will not remain lit

Try this, turn the black gas ****, on top of the control box, to the Pilot position. Set the temp. control on the front of the box to the desired temp. Then, hold a match or whatever else you use to light it, next to the end of the pilot, then, while holding the match to the pilot, press the reset button on top. When the pilot lights, continue to hold the reset button down for about 1 minute. Then, after a minute, turn the gas **** to the ON position, then it should remain on.

Relighting Your Furnace's Pilot Light

furnace1.jpg - Turn off the gas at the main valve at your utility box - Wait five to ten minutes for gas fumes to waft away - Get a long match—yes, a fireplace match, not a standard match - Set the gas valve on your furnace to "pilot" - Press the red button as you hold the match to the pilot valve - Keep pressing the red button for 30-60 seconds so the pilot can heat the thermocouple. Release the button and see if the pilot remains lit - If pilot goes out, wait five to ten minutes and repeat the process - Once the pilot stays lit, turn the main gas valve back on - If the pilot light continues to go out, call a technician, who may need to adjust or replace your thermocouple or adjust your pilot
