How to Update Free Maps on GPS TomTom via Review TOMTOM VIA CUSTOMER TECHNICAL SUPPORT PHONE LINE 1-866-486-6866 TOM TOM VIA "TOMTOM VIA" "TOM TOM UPDATES" "HOW TO UPDATE GPS"
You need a Tom Tom USB Cradle that will allow you to connect your tom tom to a computer. Assuming you already have one, then just connect the Cradle to a working USB port on the computer, then with the computer turned on, plug your GPS into the cradle. It should come on automatically and ask you "Connect to Computer?" Just press Yes on the GPS screen and your GPS will attempt to talk with your computer. It will automatically download updates for your system software and any mapping corrections made by you of other users. If it does not automatically download updates, then you need to launch Tom Tom Home. Once this launches one of the first screens has a button titled "Update My GPS" Just touch this bitton, or click it with your mouse... and you will be away.
You need to plug your TOM TOM into a PC with Internet connection and go to the tomtom web site: www.tomtom.com
You will need a usb cable that has the "mini" usb standard connector that plugs into the TOM TOM unit. It should update automatically, but you will need a TomTom Home account (free) created. Then you can download the latest updates that should clear up the power issues. Otherwise, get a new power cord as they do wear out with daily use.

if this is very new construction i would say with in the last couple of ears it will not be updated on the newest map for awhile and maybe longer if you are in a rural area
the tom tom site allows update for the newest pieces , if u have a piece one year old you cannot update , (legally) , you can search over the internet the version of ure gps , and than download the last version that you gps supports , put it on the card and thats an update :D
