Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

1 Answer

Just purchased a C4 1989 corvette 3 months ago. Disconnected the positive side of the battery, and was going to install a noise filter for the radio, could not figure out how to install it so I hooked the battery cable back up and now the car will not start. The car has power everywhere and the security light is flashing so I believe the security system is engaged. I have tried both sets of keys, locked and unlocked the doors but still will not start. Any idea what the problem is??? The secutity system or something else???

You have inadverantly triggered the security system and the red light is flashing 'cos of that. Now if the system is new then you can call the dealer for the code(installation/activation code) to switch off the red signal and reset the settings to default factory settings. The same can be done at the local service station eqqiped with a PC for solving such related problems....sodeep

Battery was disconnected from 1990 Corvette and now radio doesn't work. Is there a reset?

Check your Owners Manual. When the battery is disconnected the radio forgets all of its settings and has to be reprogrammed. If it is a stock radio the directions are in the owners manual. If it is not stock check the radio manufactures website for instructions. This is not a big deal. At the worst take the car to a Automotive Stereo Shop and they should be able to fix it fast and cheap. Good Luck.

I purchased a used Cobra 19 DXIV cb radio that has a black & red wire with a fuse. I was told that the wires can be wired into the fuse box under my dash. How do I do this?

You may need a test light to do this.

1. Decide if you want the power to the radio to be full time or only when the key is on.

2. If you want part time the easiest power source to access is the cigarette lighter. You can either splice into the power wire going to the cigarette lighter (center lead) or you can get a cigarette lighter plug and install it on the end of your two power wires. Center is the positive. The plug costs about $4 and takes about 10 minutes to install.

3. If you want full time you will need to find a circuit that is hot at all times and splice into it.

Use a noise filter on the power as just about all circuits in the vehicle are liable to be noisy power circuits and this will show up in form of excessive static noise during radio operation.

The red with the fuse is your positive lead. Do not hook these up backwards as this will certainly ruin the radio.

I purchased a Kitchenaid Refridgerator 6 months ago. I changed the filter at the bottom about 3 weeks ago. Ever since then, my refridgerator has a bad odor. I have completely cleaned the refridgerator and...

If you purchased this machine NEW 6 months ago, everything on it is under warranty. You should contact the selling dealer to verify you are entitled to a free service call. Changing the filter is routine maintenance and in no way should affect the warranty.

not nessecarily an electrical fire, but sounds as if the compressor is struggling to start, it is indeed "tripping off" on overload. so yo may start ot see a decline in refrigeration. check your manual for "sealed system" coverage. adn check that against our date of purchase, you should have 5 yr manufactuere warr, but that all changed Jan '06 coverage was reduced to one year! yo ucan try replacing teh overlaod relay, atached ot the side of the compressor if youd like

Does not receive FM signals anymore, just noise.

The T6310 is a disposable radio. Assuming the programming is correct, and matching on each of your radios, and you are using good batteries, there is nothing which can be done to correct the problem. We would however, suggest you double check your programming, and also the age of your batteries.

Sidenote: Rechargeable batteries only last 18-24 months before they begin to fail. Signs of failure can include, but are not limited to, poor transmit, intermittent transmit, white noise, squelching sounds. It takes more energy to transmit than to receive, so your transmit would be the first to go.
