Cannot continue the change because I don't have the password to go on the set up.
It sounds like your harddrive is failing. I imagine this is when you turn on your computer. So to be sure that this is the case I would take it to a local computer repair shop that can do a free diagnostics on the drive. Most of the time the diagnostics are free.
They will tell you it is failing or not. As for the password issue it could be a bios password. I would contact the manufacturer of the laptop or desktop and ask what the default password is for the bios. They should offer free tech support with regards to that.
If the default password doesn't work, then you might be able to reset the password by resetting the bios. Those methods will vary depending on the laptop.
