Question about Westinghouse Vacuums

1 Answer

Vacuum Cleaner never worked

I have the Westinghouse Unplugged vacuum cleaner. Conditioned the batteries (2 of them) but the machine won't turn on. After calling Westinghouse and getting a new charger it still has the same problem. I got this as a reconditioned machine but have not been able to use it. I cannot send it back since because of the size of the machine (you cannot remove the handle once it is attached) the cost to ship it would be more than the deeply discounted price I paid. Same would be true to ship it to Westinghouse for repair. I am about to give this to Goodwill...and just be out the $50 discounted price I paid for it.

These cordless units are no more than a broom. toss it out and go buy a real vacuum with a cord. FYI cheap vacuums are cheap vacuums. if you want something to last a do a great job you have to put out a little more money for it.

It's highly probable that the Dyson power switch has gone bad.
You can buy dyson dc14 switch here.
The switch is located right behind the front covering of the neck or handle when you remove the telescopic wand. Please make sure that the vacuum is unplugged before you start this project.

My Miele S3141 canister began acting strange this morning. No suction...so I took off the hose and checked for blockage, (nothing). Now I can't get the hose back on the canister. It just slips ar

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Air filter:
If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up dirt and has no suction the air filter might be clogged. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
Exhaust Filter If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the exhaust filter might be clogged. Remove and clean the filter, replace it if its torn or damaged.

Vacuum Hose If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum hose might be clogged. Remove the hose from the vacuum cleaner, stretch it out straight, shine a bright flashlight in one end and try to see light through it. If no light can be seen, use something to run through the hose and free up the obstruction.
Vacuum Bag If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the vacuum bag might be full. Clean or replace the bag as recommended by the manufacturer.

Dust Cup AssemblyIf the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and has no suction the dust cup assembly might not be installed tightly, or it might be cracked or broken. The dust cup must seal tightly in order to produce the right amount of suction. If it is cracked or broken, replace it. Most glues and adhesives will not successfully seal the crack.
Blower Wheel If the vacuum cleaner won't pick up and there is no suction, the blower wheel might be jammed or broken. Check the blower wheel to be certain it turns freely. If it doesn't, check to see if there is anything rubbing against it. If not, but it's hard to turn, the motor is most likely the problem.

My vacuum cleaner start up fine, then quickly

Hi There,

This is a telltale sign that your vacuum cleaner is clogged. When the motor makes the higher pitched louder noise, your motor is not able to pull air through it, and has to strain harder because it's not able to breath.

Because you have already narrowed it down, that the noise only happens when you put the wand back into the vacuum, this means that you clog is definitely in the bottom section of the vacuum cleaner. Most clogs on upright vacuum cleaner occur right at the suction port behind the roller brushes on the bottom of the machine. Turn the vacuum upside down so that the brushes are facing upwards. Unscrew the bottom plate of the machine so that you may access the roller brush and belt. Look behind the brush roller for the opening of the vacuum where the suction port it. Look inside here and see if you can visibly see anything lodged inside. Sometimes just pushing a long screw driver into this hole can dislodge the obstruction.

If you aren't able to see anything in this port, and the screw driver doesn't dislodge it, look inside the small section of how that the wand connects into, and try pushing your screw driver down this hose to see if you can dislodge it from this part.

Sometimes a metal hanger can also effectively unclog hoses on vacuum cleaners, but just be careful that the hanger doesn't tear the lower hose section while you're pushing it through.

Also if you have another vacuum in the home, using the hose from the other vacuum and putting it inside the lower hose, or the suction port behind the brushes while you're pushing with the screw driver will also many times dislodge the obstruction easier.

Please let me know if this was able to unclog the vacuum cleaner, and I'd be more then happy to try and do some more advanced diagnosing with you for your vacuum cleaner.

If this was helpful to you, please help other Fixya users find this repair by rating helpful. This is greatly appreciated, and is what keeps Fixya repair experts continue giving free advice on the site.

Thanks so much,

Windtunnel dual v vacuum cleaner brushes do not rotate when the vacuum cleaner is turned on

when you turn this model on, the only way to have the brushes turn is to move the brush control switch to on and then tilt the handle back. if all of this is ok but they do ot spin then check to see if you can turn them by hand with the machine off and unplugged. check the lint filter underneath the unit. if you cannot turn the brushes by hand then your issue is most likely the turbine. requiring shop service.

Vacuum will not turn on

Kenmore Model 116, behind the Vacuum cleaner there is a Motor Reset switch which you need to press.
1. Make sure the Vacuum Cleaner is unplugged.
2. Press the reset button gently in with a pen.
3. Plug back the Vacuum cleaner and it should work.

Electrolux ambassdor will not run after pluggen in

Greeting from GoVacuum,

On all Electrolux canister vacuum cleaners, there is a kill switch, that will not allow the machine to turn on without a bag in it. Sometimes when replacing the bag, the bag is placed in a position where the switch is not being activated.

When you open the bag housing, it should look like this;
91cabdc.jpg

You'll notice in the bottom right corner of the bag housing, the kill switch to the vacuum cleaner.
3594972.jpg

Try plugging the vacuum cleaner in, and while you are pressing this kill switch down, turn on the vacuum cleaner. Does the vacuum cleaner turn on/off when you push/release the kill switch? If it does, simply just get a new bag, and make sure that the new bag is covering the kill switch, and close the door of the vacuum cleaner.

If it still doesn't start, let me know and I'll try to help you diagnosis the machine differently. I'd say that 6 out of 10 times, this kill switch is the problem.

I hope this helps you. Please email me with any questions, or if this fix doesn't make your vacuum work. I really enjoy sharing my passion, and expertise in repairing vacuum cleaners.

I just bought a westinghouse unplugged vacuum cleaner.( It is new) The design is awesome, and when it works it works great . But it has very short battery life. 1 battery lasts only about 5 minutes, and...

Usually a short battery life means bad battries that aren't holding its charge. Being new I would think it would have a year's warranty on it. Find out who is the closest warranty shop and have them fix it.
