Question about Toro Garden

I hit a stump and my toro stopped immediately. I got it restarted and finished the lawn, but when I took it out to do the alley a few minutes later, it wouldn't start anymore.

Did you damage your lawnmower in any way?
Try to start it after it has had some time to cool off.

Sudden stoppage of the crankshaft due to hitting a stump probably caused the keyway on the flywheel to shear which knocked the ignition timing off. The worst case scenario would be a bent crankshaft which would probably be noticeable when you pull on the starter rope.

Pull the cover with the recoil starter off and you will have access to the flywheel to see if the key is sheared. If it is, in fact, the key then you should be able to get a replacement part for just a couple of dollars.

10 year old Toro 2017 lawnmower, suddenly stopped while cutting grass. Oil quite low. Cannot pull cord more l than few inches.

When you pull the cord does it hit a hard stop and not go any further or does it get really difficult?

I have a Toro 20332 that stopped running after 20 minutes and would not restart. Tried several days later and it would start for a few seconds and stop again. Took it to the Tor dealer twice last year...

Just take off your carb and give it a good cleaning. Be careful and watch how everything comes apart so you can put it back together with little or no trouble.

Stopped abruptly won't restart

tThe flywheel is indexed to the crankshaft with a soft aluminum "shear" key, when the blade is stopped suddenly the key is broken instead of the crankshaft. The flywheel will need to be removed and a new key installed. Make sure to clean the shaft and flywheel mating surfaces so they fit tightly or the new key won't last too long.

I have a kawasaki 21 hp on a 2008 toro O turn mower.Last fall as I was mowing the mower suddenly stopped and would not restart. Later I realized the engine filled with gas. I then took it to the dealer...

Find a different dealer...The problem doesn't have a "101" type of solution. Being able to fix the problem requires knowing what you're looking at and recognizing what's out of adjustment. There isn't a "base line" to start at. A few shop tools are needed. Especially a tachometer. A rack type assembly under the carburetor, where the cables attach, can be moved as a whole unit to adjust how the springs effect the governor, which in turn, changes how the governor controls the carburetor. Yours is set too low, with too much tension, and the springs are too tight.

Unable to restart Toro lawn mower after it backfired and stopped.

Did you hit something? Sounds to me like a flywheel key sheared off or a major internal part broke. My thoughts are you will need to take this to a repair shop or individual that can comfortably tear into the engine.

I have toro 6.5 super/recycler that stalls out after about 5-10 minutes after it starts up then it will not start for about 30 mins. i've changed the spark plug and cleaned the filter

Dont know if this is the same problem but it may help. I've recently bought a used Toro 6.5 recycler and have cut the lawn 3 times with it. This third time it began to stall out on me. If I hit the primer button several times it would start up but then die again. I thought I'd have to pull the carb and clean it, ut after looking at a few problem listings online I realized it was probably just some trash in the needle valve. I managed to get it running again by first pushing the primer pump 3-5 times, then pulling the cord to crank it, then while holding the contact bar in place with one hand to keep it running I reached down and pumped the prime button a few times before it cut out again- after one or two tries it apparently flushed the trash out and it ran fine again. Had the same problem later and fixed it the exact same way, then went on to finish the yard.

Trimmer starts immediately, then stops

How old is the trimmer? If still under warranty, Sears can fix this. If not, then my experience has been the problem is a bad coil. This is due to heat build up. When the coil gets hot, it shorts out.
