What lubricant do you use for a Staples SPL-XC240D and where do you lubricate it?

Staples actually sells shredder lubricant. It comes in a small squeeze bottle. You actually are lubricating the shredder teeth themselves to keep them sharp and prolonging their lifetime. You simply take a piece of paper you are about to shred, run a bead of the lubricant across the sheet and feed it into the shredder. Done!

How to save repairs for paper shredders

When purchasing a new paper shredder, analyze your needs and purchase the largest shredder to fit your need and budget. If you buy one that "says" it can handle 10 sheets at a time, only put 6-7 sheets at a time to prevent overloading your shredder. Always use shredder oil to lubricate your blades and that will also prevent binding and eliminate most jams.

Do you ever need to lube a memorex paper shredder

ALL shredders need to be lubricated. When metal turns, it creates friction that, over time, can cause the blades to warp. Just like you have to add oil to a car, shredders must be oiled as well. You can buy bottles of oil at your local office supply store. Just squirt across the top of the blades. Or pour some on a plate, dip a piece of paper in it, then shred. If you want less mess, purchase the pre-lubricated sheets that you can just drop in and shred. Make sure to shred in reverse about half way through to get the best results.

My shredder stoped working

My shredder was under warranty--not officemax warranty--so I sent it back to the company that manufactured the shredder, at my expense. They sent me a new one at their expense. Had I added a few more dollars to the shipping for a new shredder. I never could get my to accept paper or lubricating sheet. Did not open the exchanged shredder until 2 days ago and so far it works, however the original one worked for about a week before stopping. I believe--should I have the need I will purchase a different brand.
I hope that helps.

Lubricate with what product

It's amazing how easy it is to lubricate a shredder, at least the blades portion of the shredder. Go to your local Staples store, or else order on line. They sell lubrication sheets for all shredders. I bought a dozen for less than $10 and they work great. You just insert the sheet and shred it. The unit is lubricated. The Staples part number I got was their part number 602400. Good luck..

How do open the machine to add the lubricant?

Best way to lubricate is just to put the oil in an "S" pattern on a sheet of paper and shred just that one sheet. My have to do that a few times if its never been lubricated.

Where do I get more shredder Care Lubricant Sheets?

I usually make my own. Find out what type of oil it uses then soak a sheet in that oil and run it through the shredder. You can probably use machine oil like the kinds they use on sewing machines.
Found this on a site (4 ways to oil your machine, the other two are the sheets and oiler attachement):

1.) The old-fashioned way. The most common way to oil your shredder is by applying the lubricant directly to the machine's cutting head. It's easy to do this if your oil is stored in a squirt bottle. Just squirt some of the liquid on their entire width of the cutting head and then run the machine in reverse for up to a minute. Doing so will ensure that the lubricant is applied evenly. It will also cut down on the amount of dust in the machine. When you're done with that, run some paper through your shredder to absorb any excess lubricant. That's all there is to it.

2.) The zig-zag method. Another quick and easy method is by dampening a sheet of paper with the lubricant. To take advantage of this method, all you need to do is apply the liquid to the sheet in a zig-zag pattern and then shred it. Use the reverse mode on your device to ensure that the oil reaches all of the blades. If you want, you can repeat this process a couple of times to make sure your machine is fully oiled. Note: you don't need to soak the paper. Just make sure that your zig-zag covers most of the sheet.

Royal VF 1000, overloads with one sheet of paper

Try pouring some shredder oil into the cutting blades where you insert the paper then run the unit in reverse for a while. Then put some of the shredder oil onto a sheet of paper and try shredding the sheet of paper. Some lubrication on a x-cut shredder does not hurt.
