Question about Nikon Cameras

1 Answer

The MENU button in my Nikon D80 is not working. When I push the button, the screen remains blank. Before this happened, I placed an external flash on the hot shoe, but it did not flash.

If you attempted to use an external flash with an incompatible trigger voltage, it has probably damaged the electronics in the camera.

I'm afraid it might not even be possible to fix this at all - consult the service centre, but be prepared for disappointment.

Lcd screen: lighter images flash from normal to

You are probably viewing the preview screen in "Highlight" mode. To fix this, use the dial button at the back of the D80 and click up (or down) to see another depiction of the preview screen. It will show you different options until you can see the normal picture without the flashing highlights. Hope this helps.

Format the SD cards with the camera. You might have to do a software upgrade on the camera since the Kodak card files are different than Nikons.

Low Battery Indcator Flashes

You can check the status of your battery, including chargeble life remaining, in the Setup Menu. You need to have the CSM/Setup menu option to display Full menus, not Simple, in order to get battery status. So see if that battery status selection says you need to replace the battery.

Since you can shake the camera to get full battery, it's possible the battery contacts (on the battery or in the camera) are dirty, so check that.

If you do need a new battery, spend the few extra bucks to get a genuine Nikon EN-EL3e from a Nikon dealer. I have learned that many off-brand batteries do not properly implement a needed reserve, and "Genuine Nikon" batteries bought online from non-dealers are often counterfeit, just relabeled junk.
