Check and replace the vertical scan output IC. Check related capacitors, and solder terminals at the vertical scan output section circuit for any loose soldering. Check the voltages at the vertical scan output IC. Refer its circuit diagram [schematic] for more details. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

Horizontal line

ur tv has problem with vertical scanning section. may be dry soldering or vertical output ic faulty.
u can easily find out the vertical section on ur tv. for that u have to open ur tv. u can see a coil is fitted on the picture tube neck. there are four lines coming from the neck, of which two will go to horizontal scanning section and the remaining two will go to vertical section. follow the two thin wire normally in color green and yellow. it will go to a socket in the main board. trace the track from that socket in the main board . it will lead u to the vertical scanning section. check for any dry soldering in that section. mainly the soldering of vertical ic. if see or not re-solder the leads of the vertical ic . then check is the tv is ok or not. if complaint remains replace the vertical scanning out pout ic. it will be fitted on a aluminum heat sink in the vertical section. if u need more assistance feel free to contact through fixya.

I have a monitor with an Orion PWB-2022 chassis. The picture fades from left to right and also has vertical "jailbars". Changed C418. That was the only electrolytic cap found bad. No change. I have no...

In the CRT tube socket connected to the video board.Resolder that, changes all the caps on the video board around the main IC.That should solved the problems, not than ur main IC in the video board is shorted and dead.

Panasonic CT-27SL15 has scan lines on top 4 inches of screen, what is problem and how to fix?

Nov 2011 - Comment
Have similar problem on a Panasonic Tau model CT-27SL15.
It's a 27" CRT TV manufactured around 2005.

Other posts / solutions on this problem say possibly a capacitor going bad in the vertical circuitry / near the vertical IC / vertical blanking circuitry. Telephone call to a TV repair person mentioned something similar - "possibly a bad capacitor in the vertical circuitry".
Found a service manual online w/schematics and board layouts.
Panasonic Service Manual
See pg 25 (of 42) - Deflection Schematic Diagram (Main PCB)
Shows: V Output IC - IC401
Finding the actual bad component(s) may not be so easy.
Anyway ... just wanted to add this comment.

My picture on my Tv is one scrunched up line across the set

The vertical output circuit has a failure. Very likely the vertical output i.c. and perhaps some small related components. These parts are soldered in place on the main board. If you are technically inclined and able to solder you should, with a schematic & digital multimeter, be able to fix it. Otherwise locate a competent technician or consider a new unit. I wish I always had good news and a quick fix, but my car mechanic usually can't do that for me enither. Good luck.

Sound is one but very often picture goes to just a line across the screen, mid-screen

sounds like cold solder joint in the vertical circuit. May be schematic inside case, or look on main board for silkscreen labels, ones starting with V are for vertical circuit. look at solder side with magnifier and you will most likely fine one or more "cold" broken joints, especially where large wattage resistors or IC's with large heat sinks are attached to the main board. Just reheat them and flow new solder on them and send me 5 bucks (only kidding) should be a good fix.

TV suddenly turned off and won't turn on for more than nSec.

Hello kd6aaj, You are on the right track, a vertical line usually means that you lost horizontal deflection which is supplied by the horizontal/High voltage section. The thing that puzzles me is that you did not lose high voltage. Let me explain. In modern TVs the horizontal section uses scan rectification or a process similar to a switching power supply to convert a lower voltage tapped off of the hoizontal/HV section to provide B+ for the rest of the television. So if you lose your Horizontal voltage you lose your B+ also. So you will never see the vertical line because you low voltage power supply if off also. Now I think your Q571 (H-Out), Q572 (H-Drive), Q551 and/or Q552 (H-Control) might be good. However check them anyway. I would also advise you to check your yoke transformer for an open or shorted winding. This would cause you to lose deflection without losing high voltage. You are definatly in the right section just add the deflection section to your scope of troubleshooting.

20 inch T.V.

You have a bad vertical output IC, or the sweep power supply that drives the IC is bad. Your going to need the service schematic diagram and the know how to fix solid state electronics.
