WHAT OS windows 7?, (also sold with Linux or FREEDOS)
only the word "brightness key," stated no verbs..
i presume you mean that the key is dead, up and down
or do you mean the key works but does not go to full up brightness.
or that when on battery the display dims, all do, out of the box new.
50% dim with AC power removed, and on battery
the control panel.
or goes 100% dim in sleepmode. what are the full symptoms.

here are all the driver, are yours loaded ? and matched.

How do I turn down brightness on my hp Windows 7 computer?

Hi,

Below are instructions to adjust brightness on HP laptop

    • Press the "Fn" key with the computer turned on and hold the key.

    • Press the "F7" or "F8" key on some HP laptops, which are printed with a small sun icon on the key. The sun icon is filled on the function key for dimming the laptop. The other key is printed with a hollow sun icon for brightening the screen.

    • Press the "Fn" and left arrow keys together on some HP laptops to turn down the brightness. The "Fn" and right arrow key will increase brightness. Press and release the right arrow key repeatedly, while holding down "Fn," to decrease the screen brightness slowly, or hold the keys to darken the screen as low as the setting will go.

  1. For HP Monitors

    • Press and hold the down arrow key on the front panel of the monitor below the screen to turn down the brightness on the external monitor to the lowest setting.

    • Repeatedly press the down arrow button to dim the monitor gradually.

    • Press the up arrow key on the monitor to increase brightness.

Rahul

My brightness keys f9 and f10 are not doing the job, i have to adjust brightness from control pannel.

Step 1:
Locate the Fn (Function) key on your keyboard. It may be on the bottom left side with dark blue letters. Locate the two "brightness" keys near the top of the keyboard. These will be in the "F" keys, possibly if F6 and F7. They should have little sun pictures or something similar to indicate brightness. Hold down the Fn key while pressing F7, or whichever "F" key your laptop uses to increase brightness. Tap F7 repeatedly until you reach the desired brightness. Fn must be held down as you continue to tap.

My function keys of hp probook 4420s is not working

You have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of your keyboard then hit the volume or brightness keys. Notice that the volume and brightness keys are the same color as the FN function key. That means you have to press and hold the FN key while you hit the volume or brightness key.

HP Compaq Presario R4000 (PN495AV) PC Notebook How

Yes, go to Start>Control panel>Power Options. There also should be a screen brightness key on your key board, that looks like a sun shining, with arrows pointing up & down. To use that key, hit the FN key, right next to the Ctrl key. Push & hold the FN key, while pushing the up arrow. That should increase the brightness of your display. Good luck.

How do I turn up the brightness on a HP Probook 6550b?

PLEASE RATE ME!
go to the search icon under start. search brightness. it will tell you step by step what to do.
Every laptop is different, so adjusting the brightness or contrast on your laptop may vary from the steps provided on this page. However, understanding the process of how to adjust the brightness or contrast will help you change your settings.
Most laptops adjust their brightness and other settings using the function key in conjunction with another key. For example, pressing and holding the function key (abbreviated as "Fn") and pressing the up or down arrow keys as shown in the picture below, increases and decreases the brightness.

The lcd display of my laptop hp dv6915nr remains dim or barele redeable

Maybe the display brightness is low. Go to Control Panel and check somewhere. Also, look for a brightness key. My F7 and F8 have brightness up/down in rectangles.
Press the 'Fn' (Function) key and press the brightness up key. You're up and ready. Go, enjoy!

Monitor brightness

This is normal for almost every laptop - it is to conserve battery power. However, if you want to adjust the brightness anyway, you can do so by holding down the "Fn" key, and then hitting the number key that has the blue 'brighter sun' making on it. This is usually the F8 key, with the F7 key being the less bright key.
