SOURCE: usb port malfunctioning
look in device manager
make sure the usb has no yellow or red showing on them
if they do verify they aren't disabled then update drivers ,allow to auto install
also make sure you haven't accidently disabled USB support in bios

I'm sure you probably have done this but i gotta ask!
When using usb there's enough power to run the usb key. When using 2.5inch hard drive the usb has enough power to run it. When using a 500gig you will need a separate powersource for it so check to make sure thats the case.
Also, a lot of these dvds will will only work with ide external harddrives and not sata external ones so make sure you use ide drives only.

OK, well I have used this many many times. You simply need to copy the Movie in any of the Formats that the set can use, and copy the Movie to the USB stick. When the stick is inserted, using the remote you simply "Select" that "USB Input" and select the Movie, and select "Play", IF the right Format, has been used, the Movie will "Play" as if it was a DVD.
Consult your manual. link below.
