SOURCE: Sharp Air Conditioner. Model
If you set you r AC to FAN mode the unit will not cool, it only runs in the indoor but the outdoor will off. If you set to AUTO the unit will cool but the indoor blower will automatically run slower when the room is cool or attain the room temp. setting. If you set it to COOL the fan speed is fix depending on your setting and it also operate in cool.

Hello, the filter should be in the front of the unit as you mentioned, and there is only one. One thing you can do is measure the inlet air and the outlet air and find the differance between the two numbers. It should be between 15 and 20 degrees, if it is less than 15 then you have a low refrigerant charge or the evaporator coil is dirty and should be cleaned.

SOURCE: We need a replacement filter
Karen, even though your model has been discontinued, you can still get a washable filter replacement for you AC Unit. Most hardware stores and home improvement stores sell a washable, mesh filter kit, that can be cut to size to fit your unit and hundreds of others. You'll probably have enough left over to make two filters, if necessary
I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
