My reciever keeps kicking into protect mode. all the connections are flush and it has plenty of ventilalion

Hi Mattckristof,
When you ask a question, providing a bit more detail about your problem will assist in returning an answer that will solve your problem.
Manufacturer: Model: Connected components (mainly speakers in this case including type of cable):
Without that info, I would suggest the following: Power down and disconnect everything. With nothing connected and with the volume at 0 or zero, turn the receiver back on. If it switches into protect, something has damaged the receiver. If it works, power down and try plugging in one speaker at a time until you find the culprit.
You might also try a different power outlet.
Let me know if this helps.

My yamaha receiver Kv-R1000 keeps shutting off.

Hi rpolanco
To answer your question;
First i`d like to know if there is a specific message on the front panel display before it shuts down.
One thing you can try at this time is to switch back and forth a couple of times the impedance selector switch at the back.
Another thing is to try to loosen up and re-tight all the screws at the back of the receiver(you`ll need a philips/star screwdriver) as the back panel is often used as ground for different circuits.
Try that and let me know about display messages.
I`ll be waiting for your answer

Hi Ernietex,

Dont blame your wife.

Your receiver is basically going into protect mode.

The Denon AVRs contains a microcomputer for signal processing and control functions. In an unlikely event, it may cause it to lock up. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet, wait for 10 to15 seconds and then plug it back again.

But, before you do than, please also check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Take out all the wire and put them back again if necessary..
Some times even a little tiny frayed wire touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough and it could blown a few trasistors in the power circuit.
Just check your speaker as well....whether they play all right thru another receiver or amplifier. its posiible they might be shorting inside. A little frayed wire could also trigger the protect circuit in your receiver.
I hope this should solve your problem.

If you still can’t resolve the issue yourself, try resetting the AV receiver/AV amplifier before going on to opening the Receiver.

Hope you can sort out your problem with the above trouble shooting. Let me know if I can guide you further.
Best of luck. Thanks for using FixYa!

Brand new avr588 receiver is turned on....is on for five seconds and then cuts off to standby

Hi donnie025,

I can't believe you haven't received an answer before now.

The red flashing light normally indicates that the protection circuit has been tripped. It can be caused by something as simple as a short in a speaker wire. Even if there is one strand of loose wire that makes contact with the back of the receiver, another wire, etc. it can cause a short. To protect itself the receiver will simply shut down.

1st. I would suggest disconnecting all the speaker wires from the back of the receiver. Then turn on the receiver (obviously you won't hear any sound) and see if the receiver does the same thing. If it does you should try disconnecting all of the source components (DVD player, Cable box etc.) and try again. If it still does it the receiver is bad and needs to be serviced or exchanged if you still can.

2nd. If the receiver stays on after you disconnect, then turn off the receiver and connect one speaker at a time, then power on the receiver at test it after connecting each speaker. This way if it suddenly shuts down after connecting a speaker you know which speaker or wire to check.

Let me know how it works out for you, I hope this helps if you haven't figured it out already.

Phillips FTR9965 / 12s

The no signal message is there because the screen is waiting for a signal from the receiver, it then switches into protection mode (flashing red). The usual cause is a blown protection fuse inside the receiver.

Pioneer VSX-D702s receiver - no sound - need help/circuit plan

The unit is in what is called "protect" mode. A problem was detected in the final output stage and that stage is turned off. The most common reason for this is failed output transistors. This is a simple repair for any repair shop and will cost about $10-$15 for parts plus the local labor charge. Expect that the output transistors plus a few supporting parts to be replaced. Most of the time, only one channel is badm, but due to the design of the protection circuit, both channels are turned off.
