Question about Troy-Bilt Garden

Open Question

Replaced drive and transmission belts on a troy-bilt riding mower and now it runs very slow.

This mower ran fine before replacing belts. Belts are installed correctly per the manual. I have adjusted the acceleration pedal as far as possible and this did nothing to help.

SOURCE: I just replaced the drive

The bronco is a variable speed mower from what I remember. There is a belt that goes from the crankshaft to a variable speed pulley and another belt from the variable to the transmission. If your 1st belt is too long it will never get up to speed. Do you have to push the pedal down further now than before to get it to move. ? If so your main belt is too long.

be sure the drive rod is engaged on the back of the mower. pulled out should be free move and in should be the drive position. if it is in check the belts are in good shape and not off of a pulley.

Troy bilt zero turn mower runs but does not move

Make sure the gears are engaged. There are 2 metal hooks on the rear of the mower, 1 on each side, if they are pulled out the mower is out of gear, make sure to slide them over so they retract back into the mower. If not the problem, sounds like either broken drive belts or the transmission isn't working properly.

During mowing I smelled burn rubber like the belts were bad, then the riding mower would not go in forward or reverse. I do not know what is wrong. Little help please.

it sounds like a drive belt to me. there is another belt above the deck belt that runs to the transmission. it could of died of old age but it was rubbing on something when it gave up.
did it leave a trail of parts? look for a broken belt on the top of the transmission/axel.
good luck/

You need to adjust the gas pedal. Info should be in the owners manual. I have it in my Troy Bilt Bronco manual. It say to adjust it in my book after replacing the trans drive belt. Maybe that will help.

Not an easy fix. There are likely 2 belts which should be replaced as a pair. Engine pulley must be lowered to remove long belt. Pay special attention to belt routing. Most times small belt requires removal of transmission pulley. Good Luck.
