Question about HP Computers & Internet
The 98 se is not modded in any way
Posted by Anonymous on
A relic, windows 98. now that is brave..
zero HP or MS support , nADA.
other sources full of virus and malware, (think mine field)
ok, we'd need the full chip data on it to do that.
my brain cant even go back that far now, 1998 , 2 decades?
I cant even remember how to get to device manager then?
see my computer icon, right click it and see device manager.?
the click on the ethernet chip. "network adaptor"
it can be blank , red, yellow or unknown marked,
open it by right clicking it and the select properties.
there are PnP codes there,
see that line there, those codes are just 2 simple numbers
one is maker (chip) code8168 is mine and is Realtek
the 8432104 code
is the PCI code for this exact chip
once we know chip we know what driver matches it.
since your internet is down.
getting this driver will take? a working PC.
this PC sold new, with all these options.from HP.
one will be yours, if not, something, 3rd party from say new egg
i open the case, look at Rj45 jack you can see and I cant
then i look at what it goes to , to a PCI card (y/n)
if yes i read the words on the card.
if not, off the chip if its MOBO planted there.
that is what I do or did 1000s of time back in 1998.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
