The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If it still fails, you have a failed keypad.

This can be dangerous, and you should keep it attended to when in use (as with any microwave) and unplugged when not in use.

Since it's less than one year old, it should be fully covered under warranty. I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

For more help from Magic Chef / Ewave see here or their contact page.

SOURCE: magic chef microwave shuts down

We had the same problem with our brand new Magic Chef. Before going through the trouble of taking it back I called Home Depot. After talking to a Home Depot Rep I am told that the overheat sensor is under the glass plate directly beneath the popcorn bag. Popcorn gets very hot and the heat of the popcorn causes the sensor to shut the machine down. I would imagine this would be the same for a baked potato.
Very poor design.
I was told to put a microwave safe plate down and put the popcorn bag on it. This should help to reduce the heat and not trip the sensor.
A safety sensor is great, but not if it keeps tripping the machine and shutting down!

Microwave turns on by itself

The problem is in the keypad control board, in order to fix this the part alone starts around $100.00 and must be replaced to fix this, also it would be a good idea to get the door switches checked.

Microwave does not heat

Hello, I have been repairing microwaves for years, and it sounds like you do have a bad magnatron tube, the magnatron tube generaly runs between $65.00 and $120.00 so the answer to your question about fixing the microwave verses replaceing it, that depends on how old the microwave is, how much you paid, and if you want to put the money into for the tube, and then you also have the labor of haveing it put in if you do not know how too do it safely.. If you want to attempt to repair it and replace the mag tube, I would be more than happy to give you the instructions to do so safely!!! If you decide to fix it, send me a reply to this message, and i will furnish you with a phone number to reach me at to give you instructions...........hope this helps......p.s. I do not charge for any information i give you.....
