This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. But you didn't mention the make or model of your camera. This is important as if it's an older Canon or Sony, it might be fixed for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110, IXUS V2/300/400/430/500, IXY Digital 30/30a/200a/300a/D320/400/ 450/500

It is not a bad ccd imager - it is a software issue - from what i have found.

I have two cameras one on the low end and one on the high end - Pro-sumer. The low end camera started to do this after a firmware update - checked my Prosumer camera by taking shots of sunsets etc etc etc. No Purple streaking.

Firmware updated a couple days later - Purple streaking accures when ever pointing towards a light source. depending on where on the LCD screen the bright area is - that is where it streaks or halos in purple. see the following images for samples:

http://i46.tinypic.com/2csdhs4.jpg
http://i45.tinypic.com/29nxkyo.jpg

My feeling is the firmware is corrupted either durring download or durring unzipping or copying to the SD card for install. Or the firmware itself is bad and causing the issue - in which case reverting back to a previous version of firmware may resolve this issue.

I've written the company of the Prosumer camera and hopefully they will take a look at the file i used to update and compare it to the version they have and find the errors.

Other way which i have to try next is find a comp that is known to be clean - download the firmware update -

Format a SD card - load it with the needed firmware files and update the camera that way and see if it fixes it.

See if you can find a MAC that is clean and load it from that - may help as they are less prone to viruses or male ware.

Hope that helps some and if i hear back from the prosumer camera company which i should soon - i'll update with any advice their techs give.

EDit - IF the pruple band is positivly showing up in your pictures and in one spot on your LCD IE: in the same place all the time on the LCD screen - then yes - you may have a bad ccd sensor.

Are you sure it's showing in the images?

I've heard of Black banding being a ccd and showing in the images - not purple. Purple usually is software related as far as i know... and from what i've found by experience - though i am not all knowing - does someone know different?

Based on the information provided by you, the issue appears to be related to the LCD screen or the image sensor. However, you may try using a fully charged battery pack to check the operation of the Camera. You may also try pressing and holding the Reset button for 30 seconds. Furthermore, remove the Battery pack from the Camera then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then, reinsert the Battery pack and turn ON the Camera to check its operation.
If the issue persists then the issue is related to the Hardware malfunctioning and service will be required.

Purple Screen on my Canon PowerShot A85 (Canada)

If the purple band does not appear in pictures when you download them on computer, then the problem is a faulty LCD screen or a bad ribbon cable.

If the purple band appears in pictures even when you watch them on a computer, then the problem is a faulty CCD sensor.

In both situations the repair requires complete disassembling and must be done by a technician.

If it is CCD , then Canon may cover the out of warranty repair, call them back and ask again stating that is CCD problem.

The image is getting blurred

Hi

The camera may have moved when the picture was taken. Try steadily squeezing the button intead of a quick press.

2.Try using a tripod, this could fix the blurred images.

3. faster shutter speed will be needed if you need to hold the camera, and cannot use a tripod.

4. Main reason for the lines could be that the subject is to bright.
A vertical bar of light(red, purple) appears on the LCD monitor/ in the viewfinder This is a normal occurrence in devices containing CCDs (Digital Cameras) and does not mean a malfunction. (This red bar of light will not be recorded when shooting still photos, but it will be recorded when shooting
movies.)

Solution to the last point would be to try and switch of the flash if it is in use. Turn the ISO setting (50, 100, 200) to a lower one as well.

Hope that helps.

A big white vertical static band appears as soon a i turn on the power

Some of the transistors or the connection to the panel inside the monitor are damaged. There is no absolute fix for this problem.

You can try pushing on the bezel (NOT ON THE SCREEN) of the monitor at the edge of the screen directly at the lines and you may be able to push the connection back together well enough that the line goes away, but usually in desktop monitors the bezel is too rigid to allow you to put any pressure on the connections at the back of the LCD panel.
