Question about Canon Cameras
AS soon as I turn camera on and when shooting a picture or just in general a purple band appears vertically on screen and also show up on pictures when downloaded- happens all the time now making camera unusable
This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. But you didn't mention the make or model of your camera. This is important as if it's an older Canon or Sony, it might be fixed for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

It is not a bad ccd imager - it is a software issue - from what i have found.
I have two cameras one on the low end and one on the high end - Pro-sumer. The low end camera started to do this after a firmware update - checked my Prosumer camera by taking shots of sunsets etc etc etc. No Purple streaking.
Firmware updated a couple days later - Purple streaking accures when ever pointing towards a light source. depending on where on the LCD screen the bright area is - that is where it streaks or halos in purple. see the following images for samples:
My feeling is the firmware is corrupted either durring download or durring unzipping or copying to the SD card for install. Or the firmware itself is bad and causing the issue - in which case reverting back to a previous version of firmware may resolve this issue.
I've written the company of the Prosumer camera and hopefully they will take a look at the file i used to update and compare it to the version they have and find the errors.
Other way which i have to try next is find a comp that is known to be clean - download the firmware update -
Format a SD card - load it with the needed firmware files and update the camera that way and see if it fixes it.
See if you can find a MAC that is clean and load it from that - may help as they are less prone to viruses or male ware.
Hope that helps some and if i hear back from the prosumer camera company which i should soon - i'll update with any advice their techs give.
