SOURCE: Positive and neutral on satchwell geyser thermostat

with only 2 terminals it will not matter which wire goes on the terminals
a thermostst is just a spring loaded switch that is adjusted by the knob
the points of the switch are pushed apart by the thermostat medium and the pressure need is set by the spring from the knob
so it is power in -power out= no matter which wire is connected to which terminal

The wiring neutral (white) and hot (black) wire have dislodged from the thermostat. The thermostat is not marked. Also the wire colors are white and not marked. When you plug into the electrical...

Well in the UK & Europe, AUS & NZ, the black wire is neutral.

Any other colored wire (except green) is know as live/active/hot.

Use a tester, one touching the metal casing or earth & the other to see if the wire is hot/live/active.

The colour codes are as follows:
Brown = Line / Active
Blue = Return / Neutral
Green/Yellow = Earth / Ground
It is likely that the Brown and Orange would be connected together but not 100% sure.

How do i wire a potterton programable controller

Hi,

All you need to do is look at the wiring diagram on the back of the old room stat, you will have the following:

(normally wired with these colours)

OLD COLOUR CODING

Live (sometimes called common) - Red
Neutral - Blue
Switch Live - Yellow

NEW COLOUR CODING

Live - Brown
Neutral - Grey
Switch Live - Black

All you need to do is wire up the new stat with this in mind. (please note: if the wires are not colour coded like this then do not proceed and get an electrician)

Any problems or questions let me know

I hope this helps

Steve
