SOURCE: Dishes not getting clean, white film

Hello cljjtm,
You will need to clean the wash arm and unclog the spray holes.. use white vinegar to break down the soap deposit and a sharp metal tool such as an awl to free these holes up from any build up.. white vinegar may be applied while unclogging the openings..
Then, once the spray arm holes are freed of deposits..Start with an empty dishwasher.. and then start a wash on the hottest available setting and then after a few minutes of it cycling.. pause it and add a cup or two of white vinegar to the wash ( the white vinegar should break down any soap residue and allow it to be rinsed away)..once complete.. use about 1/3 less detergent than you have been. See if that gets your DW back in working order.. Hope that helps..
Regards,
Rick

SOURCE: Dishwasher 3 in 1 detergent tablet not dissolving.

I believe that the instructions for using these 3-in-1 tablets is to place it in the open dish detergent cup, rather than in the closable compartment, since the tablet needs to get doused by a lot of water in oder to fully dissolve and be effective in getting the dishes clean.

Since the tablets are designed to dissolve more slowly, they are able to be used for the entire range of washing cycles. If it's a constant problem and you don's have an open detergent cup below or next to your closed detergent dispenser, just toss it into the bottom of the dishwasher instead.

The reason that the tablet isn't getting dissolved fully is because the door is preventing the tablet from dropping all the way out and the door is shielding the tablet from quite a bit of water spray.

Another option is to take a look at your owners manual for the dishwasher and see if they recommend these all-in-one tablets versus regular powered detergent and liquid rinse aid.

Hope that helps and best regards!

SOURCE: Dishwasher does not clean well

If Rylee's above solutions do not fix your problem the filters may indeed be the problem. Start by removing the lower spray arm. There is no need to remove the arm from what I'll call the "arm base/cover assembly"; keep it clipped on.At the center of the arm is a knurled screw. It looks like a thin disk with several bumps on it, about 2 inches in diameter. It will unscrew (lefty-loosy) and allow removal of the arm assembly. At quick glance it appears to be a molded part of the arm but that's a clever disguise. Making this part a different color would be too helpful. What else would the Maytag repairman do it they made it easy for the do-it yourselfer?
Anyway, after removing the spray arm take note (or photos) of the visible parts, i.e, spray nozzle, 2 split plastic spacers. Be sure you'll be able to return these to their proper position later.
Remove the six torx (star-shaped) screws and lift the impeller cover off. Again note/photograph the position of remaining parts, i.e. filter, impeller. You will likely find the filter clogged with debris. It can be pulled out. On my model it is retained in a groove and take a bit of force to remove. I used water pressure (sink sprayer) and a toothbrush to clean my filter.
Remove any debris from the sump/ drain area. Reassembly is reverse of installation. Be sure to flush out the arm assembly to unblock all holes before re-installing it.
I hope this helps.

Bi-Metal

If the dishwasher dispenser doesn't work the bi-metal actuator might be burned out or defective. The bi-metal is a simple metal loop which acts as a latch for the dispenser door. As electricity is applied to the metal loop, the loop deforms and bends away from the latch, releasing it. If the bi-metal is burned out it won't deform or release the detergent door.

Main Control Board

The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher including the detergent dispenser. If the dispenser will not actuate the main control board might be defective. You should first check for more common parts. Many times control boards are replaced unnecessarily because the problem was not diagnosed properly.

Dispenser does not work

Hello there:
Timer On many dishwashers, a plastic actuator arm mechanically links the timer to the detergent cup. When the timer reaches the proper time in the cycle, the timer activates a lever that opens the detergent cup. If the linkage is broken or defective, the cup stays closed after you've closed it. Check the link and repair or replace it, as necessary. Bi-metal switch or wax motor A bi-metal switch is a simple electrical device that deforms when electricity is applied to it. The degree of this deformation can be engineered to concise standards. The timer energizes the bi-metal switch inside your dishwasher door--directly behind the detergent cup--when the detergent cup should open. When energized, the bi-metal switch deforms away from the detergent cup latch, which opens the detergent cup. If the bi-metal switch is defective, it may not deform enough to open the cup. If that happens, you need to replace it. On some dishwashers, the bimetal switch is wired through the heating element or motor circuit. If the element is broken (or open), or if the motor is drawing low current because of a low-fill situation, the bi-metal switch doesn't open properly. Newer dishwasher models use a wax motor instead of a bi-metal switch. It's a sealed unit with wax that heats up and pushes a piston through to open the door. The wax motor, controlled by the timer, mechanically opens the door. Detergent cup, itself The detergent cup itself can become clogged with old dried detergent that prevents it from opening. Sometimes just cleaning the cup takes care of the problem. If not, you probably need to replace the entire cup assembly

I have a whirpool dishwasher model #du980qpd85, soap door don't open. can you tell me what makes it open and what the problem could be/

Hello ramward. There are three reasons why the soap door won't open. The first is soap buildup. This is a common problem and requires old fashioned elbow grease, and hot water, and lots of cotton swabs. That said, read on:

2. On many dishwashers, a plastic actuator arm mechanically links the timer to the detergent cup. When the timer reaches the proper time in the cycle, the timer activates a lever that opens the detergent cup. If the linkage is broken or defective, the cup stays closed after you've closed it. Check the link and repair or replace it, as necessary.
3. Joe Thanks for choosing Fixya!

Water leaks from the door of countertop model on

My older model had cheap plastic type rivets around the window. Of course they broke and water leaked out the window. I took the door apart and put in a new gasket the siliconed the heck out of it!
Put dishwasher on a counter or floor and put a nice thick phonebook under neath the opened door for support. Carefully replace window with gasket and a bead of silicone. Put enough weight on top to press it down and seal it. Leave for 24-48 hrs. I've replaced the window 3 times and this fix has lasted 2 years now. total cost about $10 and a little effort. make sure you use heat tolerant silicone.

Check both arms are spinning freely when you have the machine loaded up normally.
If thats ok you could try powder instead of tabs if they are not disolving correctly

The cover of detergent dispenser does not open..

It is most likely the flip spring...you need to be certain that the legs of the spring are inside the door edge and the spring does not swing freely...and there must be tension on the spring so that when the latch releases the door flips...you can also try this with an elastic, put the elastic inside the closed door and up around the drying solution knob, this will let the door flip open showing that the latch does work
