Dryer runs for a few minutes then stops and all the lights blink

when dryer motors start going bad, this is one sign that it is time to re-place motor. They come on and then cut off. Also, please check your ventilation system ( hole in wall to wherever it goes outside) to make sure that it is NOT clogged up with lint or a birds nest. The hot air and lint that the dryer creates, cannot be restricted from exiting the dryer for it may also cause the motor to get too hot and cut off. Motor has a safety cut off fuse to shut unit down when it is getting too hot. MAKE SURE that dryer is properly installed away from wall with proper vent hose.

Kenmore Heavy Duty dryer model # 86873100

The drum belt is lopped through a idler wheel that has a power cut off switch that cuts the power when the belt breaks.
So I don't know why the dryer would heat up if the belt is broken?

Is the top of the dryer very hot. Check the dryer vent tube is not clogged.

The dryer turns on, and tumbles. Yet it no longer get hot. I was thinking heating coil. But was told it could be a smaller part.

It doesn't necessarily mean the heating element is busted when an electric dryer stops heating. The first thing to look at is the thermal cut-off which cuts power to the heating element when it blows due to the failure of the high-limit thermostat both located on the heater housing. The thermal cut-off must be replaced, together with the high-limit thermostat, if found open. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions in troubleshooting this problem.

My dryer won't stop running and won't get hot

They are both related. Regular mode only gives power to the timer when the element cuts off, but the element has to be good in order for it to work. Check the thermal cutoff at the top of the element for continuity, if it doesn't have any, replace it, and also the hi-limit thermostat below it. If it does have continuity replace the element.

My Dryer gets hot but it takes 2 hours to dry a load. My Vent goes from dryer up to the roof. I am sure it is clogged just dont know how to unclog it.

Go into atic and see what the vent is made of . Home depot sells 4 inch connectors whether hose or aluminum maybe 1 foot long . They may even sell a 4" brush connected to about a 10 foot cable ( a lot of parts houses do ) . Cut the tubing or hose and feed the cable down to someone who can pull the brush down . The top portion you will have to use injinuity to clean .
