I have replaced the black ink cartridge

  • chrismac36 Jul 25, 2009

    Brother MFC-790cw

I have done everything. Cleaned heads, printed test patterns, colors are good, no black test print.
Changed black cartridge although it was nowhere near empty.
Unplugged and plugged everything back in

Mac OS 10.4. as I say the printer has worked perfectly until now.

  • chrismac36 Jul 25, 2009

I think the black ink nozzle is plugged I have cleaned the black cartridge head so many times, even went and bought a new cartridge . Still no black test pattern.
I have a bunch of stuff to print out. This is getting a real pain.

Yes! I hooked up my Canon and it worked perfectly.

I have progressed to to point where I can see the problem is that the black ink is, for some reason blocked on the printer itself because I can test prints of every other color except black. I cleaned the black printer head so many times I had to buy a new one, it still will not print black.
Thanks for your suggestions. If you can tell me how to clean the ink inlet on the printer I will be very thankful.
    Chris

Have you replaced any cartridges ? If not, my suggestion would be to replace the black cartridge. Hope this helps.

Sorry ... I didn't see the other suggestions. What printer are you using ???

  • NinaE Aug 01, 2009

If Lexmark printer, be certain that the printhead wire harness is fully seated and properly aligned. Since you have gone through general troubleshooting, your printer may need servicing which may not be cost-effective. Alternatively, choose a very dark color, instead of black as your default.

  • NinaE Aug 01, 2009

Sorry, Chris for not reading all the details of your comments. You mentioned that you cleaned the printheads. But, there is a certain procedure to clean the printheads for your printer:

There is a button that says ink on the front panel of the
    printer.

Hit it and scroll through the option until you see one that says
clean the nozzles or print head.

    Hit OK

Do this several times. Hope this resolves your problem.

Also, set your printer to print with the black ink cartridge Only if you have already followed the above procedure several times.

    Hi,

It seems to be an issue with the printer software on your computer. Try installing the printr on another computer and check if you are able to print black text from the documents.

Did you try printing through another computer? Try that and let me know.

Well! Did you try connecing this printer to another computer and then tried printing through it. I understand that the Cannon works. However, the issue might be with the software of the printer itself.

Try that and let me know.

    Regards

Hi there

You may be out of blank ink. Please check if this is the case. There may be flashing lights on the printer itself indicating empty black ink.

If you're unsure, let me know the make and model of the printer.

Thanks.

Erratic black fusing

I'm not real sure about how the software separates the colors, but I believe there's a way to choose a color as all colors combined to make black, or simple black.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but if the printer is using all the colors to layer up and make black, then it would be a pretty thick coating and that might cause it to flake off.

Why is my Canon Pixma 4820 suddenly leaving lighter lines through color pictures.

Worn print head. And for what they charge for a stinking print head you can get a new printer for less with a warranty to boot!

Prints only color ink nothing in black

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Black text d not print

If the printer has been left for some weeks with an empty black cartridge then I suspect the print head is clogged.
To clean the print head, firstly remove it.
Remove each cartridge quickly and turn it upside down so ink does not drip out.
Flush warm water with a drop of detergent through the metal meshes at the bottom front inside of the print head unit. Continue untill the water coming out of the bottom of the print head is clear.
Then flush through with clean warm water for about 30secs.
Shake as much water as possible out of the unit.
Replace the cartridges quickly to avoid ink dripping out.
Undertake a nossle (head) clean on the printer until printing correctly.

Hope this helps.

HP 7110 still won't print in color

Your post "...it prints very faint horizontal lines in color..." is indicative that indeed your color printheads are clogged and would need repetitive deep head cleaning. This is of course would require that you keep on cleaning until such time as the faint color lines have turned to legible print.

Won't print black

I found a solution to the Black printing problem :)
Under Printing Preferences: Set your Media Type to Photo Paper Pro.
We used edible ink cartridges and printed onto icing sugar paper. Same old... Just one day it refused to print black. In order to continue our small business, I degraded the color until I printed gray and not black.

Tonight, I browsed for the problem and came across this :)

Hope it helps you too
