If you have the 1 red light E74 error it is because of the scaler chip overheating that deals with all the display on your Xbox 360.
In fact ever such alot of these errors are caused by overheating and it is not really anything to do with where you place your console but more to do with not enough ventilation getting to the system.
You can try the following:
1. Raise the power brick up off the floor as this sometimes helps.
2. Remove the Disc drive and see if that works.
If not you will have to send it back to Microsoft or use an Xbox 360 Repair guide to fix it.
If you need anymore help or have any questions let me know?
